Motor shares displayed conspicuous strength. The favorable reception of the Maxwell recapitaliza tion plan, promising increased re rns to stockholders, carrled the A stopk up 6 points to a new high '&[d. Nash Motors also scared 17! points approximating its peak yrice recently established. American Can assumed the leadership of the pivotal issues, mounting 3 points to 168, and was close followed by Atchison, General Electr United States Cast Iron Pipe, Mack Truck, Linseed preferred, S buck, Postum Cereal and . which scored gains of 2 to 3% points. The new colored public school building, just completed, at Emory Grove, this county, was dedicated a few days ago with elaborate exer- clses and in the presence of a large gathering. Dr. George L. Edmonds of the County Board of Education, Dr. George B. Lewls, superintendent of county public school property, and Tiditor son of the Gazette were the principal speakers. The exer- cises were conducted by the princi- ral of the school. The bullding, which is a three- room structure, cost around $6,500 and is one of the most complete school buildings for colored children in the county. The colored residents of the Emory Grove nelghborhood raised $500 of the cost and thereby recelved $700 toward the project from the Rosenwald fund, and the remain- der came from the County Board of Xducation. Rev. Millard F. Minnick, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Rockville, officiated at the funeral yesterday morning of Mrs. Ethel V. De Bow, wife of J. Zacharith De Bow, aged 46 years, who died in a Wash- ington spital as a result of an operation. The funeral took place from the home near Bethesda. Burial was in Rockville Union Cemetery. Arietta H. NEW YORK, April 11.—The feature of chief Interest at the resumption of bond trading after the hollday was the dealings in the new Dodge Bros. issue of $75,000,000 in 6 per cent debentures. The first transaction was i above the offering figure of 99, and subsequently 1 point premium was patd, but there was no such rush to buy the bonds as there had been in the case of the stock on Thursday. The speculative attraction in the bonds was the limited conversion privilege into common stock class “A." Oversubscription was expected French Bonds Very Wenk. French bonds were heavy again on the news of the fall of the French ministry. French 7%s at 93 and ¥rench s at 99. which prices were reached in the first half hour, were at new lows for the vear. Hicks, fugitive from Alexandria, will be brought back to- night from Pittsburgh, Pa., by Direc- tor of Public Safety Paul Morton and Detective Z. O. Kines. Kines brought Hicks as far as Washington last week, where he escaped with hit handcuffs on when the officer turned his back for a moment. . Jenerfer Broaddus, 51 years old, died yesterday at his home, in Mount lda, Arlington County. Heart disease is given as the cause of death. Mr. Broaddus had been employed for the past 18 vears as accountant at Poto-| mac Yard -and was well known here. He is survived by his widow and four sons, Frederick, Walter, James and Compton Broaddus. Funeral services were held this aft- ernoon for Mrs. James F. Wood, who died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, in Washington. Rev. Edgar Carpenter, pastor of Grace Eplscopal Church, conducted the services. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. The will of the late Dr. Kate Waller Barrett, naming Robert S. Barrett and John B. Barrett, both sons, as execu- tors, has been 'admitted to. probate. They have qualified and given bond in the sum of $20,000. The estate, the amount of which is not stated, is left to_the six children of the testatrix.
