Winter Nights }} - Throughout night the prudent man reposes, for- the bitter Winter gets the tempest’s rugged might, and dreams of yellow roses; while homeless. men drill left and right, with frosted ears and noses. They pause, the hoboes, in their tracks, out there where it is snowing, and shake their fists at cozy shacks where mellow lights are_glowing, then shake the snow wreaths from their backs and go on to-and-froing. 1t makes them sore to sece the lights from cottage windows gleaming, to know that fat and lazy wights in comfort there are dreaming; they feel defrauded of their rights, with snow around them streaming. Yet every outcast in the land has had his string of chances to join the fat and stall-fed band’in pleasant cir- cumstances ; if one will only turn his hand to work his luck advances. We're sorry for the busted "gent who sees the homefires burning, with heavens bleak above him bent, while rain to sleet is turning; we feel the depth of his lament, we un- derstand his. yearning. He, too, would sit before a fire, some harm- less beakers quaffing, and *strike some music from a lyre while happy kids are laughing, and hear -the granddam and the sire in jocund do- tage chaffing. But joys like these arc not for men on loafers' errands going, who trust to luck for minted ven while others do their sowing; and so the outcast howls again, out there where it is snoy mg. The Burcau of Internal Revenue has clashed with the board of tax appeals over two cases, and Commissioner Blalr of the burcau has decided to file suits in Federal court to have the findings of the board set aside. In the meantime the commissioner has issued instructions to bureau of- ficlals to disregard the board's decl- stons in the cases involved, and not to consider them as precedents for future actions until final adjudication by the courts has been obtained The cases have to do with assess- ments by the bureau against the Car- rol Chain Co., Columbus, Ohio, and the Bryant & Stratton Commercial School, Inc.. of Boston. Each case reached the board on the appeal of the taxpayer, and in each the position incorrect. | =il | Zonts Club Hcm"s Stories.
