The average anmnual bound Record makes 27,650 pages, depending upon the length of a session and the number of sessions. The total cost of printing and binding the Record tn 1922 was $661,026. The Sixty-seventh Congress (the last before the one mow in session) was the first to have four sessions— in reality, it had five sessions, be- cause there was a spectal, extraordi- nary session of the Senate frém March 4 to March 15. The Sixty- seventh Congress used 29,780 pages of the Congressional Record. The subscription price of the Resord is $4 for a short session of Congress and $8 for a long session, or about $1.50 per month. Single copies of the Record are sold by Mr. Smith at 3 cents for the first three signatures (a signature being speech by Senator La Folletts on rail- roal valuations eome years ago. The Senate proceedings are printéd: first in the Record, then the House pro- ceedings and then the appendix, where speeches by Semators and Represent- atives are printed under “leave to ex- tend remarks” which have not been made in their respective chambers. Ver- batimu reports of proceedings and de- bates are furnished by offictal steno- graphic reporters. Members are allowed to correct thelr remarks, but must have the copy returned to the printing office before midnight. Qccastonally pictures are printed in the Congressional Record. This is done only under special permission from the Joint comimittee on printing of the House and Senate. They must be mot larger than a page of the Record, and can.be only line drawings. The permanent Record is made up for printing and binding 30 days after each daily publication is issued, and upon final adjournment of Congress the time limit for getting in all corrections is 10 days. The Congressional Record Is studied by practically every member of Con- gress before he eats his breakfast, for it comtains the work for the day provious of “his favorite author” and President and' each Senator get 33 coples. Each Representative and Delegate gets 60 coples. Additional coples are supplied to the secretary of the Senate, clerks of the House, sergeant-at-arms of the Senate, door- keeper of the House—for working coples. Fach member of the Houso and Senate has two copies delivered, orié at his fesidence and one at the Capltol. Each newspaper correspond- ent listed in the Capitol press gal- laries has a copy of the Record mail- ed to him.
