The 18-year-old son of Prof. Tim- othy Smiddy, Minister to the United States from the Irish Free State, is eventually to become a Canadian farmer and not follow in the foot- steps of his parent in the realms of education and diplomacy. Young Smiddy expects to come to the United States in February or March to see Washington and other American citles, and then he will cross the border into Canada to spend six months in visiting the varlous parts of the Dominion to look things over. After this tour of the North American continent is made, young Smiddy intends to enter the agricul- tural school at Guelph or a similar institution at Montreal to complete his studles in modern farming. “He s one of those strong-minded voung fellows who want to start out for himself and make a career with- out parental help,” Prof. Smiddy said today, in explaining his son's ambi- tion “He'll make a good farmer, for he is intensely interested in the land and what it produces,” the Irish Min. ister added.
