SIX MEN KILLED IN SHED WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES Place of Refuge From Storm Was Filled With 150 Pounds of Dynamite. By the Associated Press. WINSTON SALEM, N. C., June 25. —Six men, trapped by a thunder- 8torm in & shed near a quarry where they were working, about five and a Ralf miles south of this city, were killed yesterday either by a bolt of lightning, which struck the shed, or the effects of the explosion of about ==adpoun¢- of dynamite stored In the ed. Those who were killed by the force of the explosion or who burned to death after the shed had caught fire were Charlie Miller, fifty: Sam Mil- ler, thirty-six; Julius Miller, forty- eight; Clark Spaugh, twenty-seven; Isaac Clemmens, twenty-two and Bob ‘Waggoner, negro, age about fifty. Charlie Miller lived about three minutes after the arrival of an am- bulance and medical ald from this city. Clark Spaugh was very badly burned in the fire, which caught after the explosion. Two automobiles in the builéing were destroyed. The shed was completely demolished, not a rafter or corner post remaining in place. Pleces of scantling were found where they had been hurled more than 200 yards. Splinters and small piecel of wood were blown into the bedies of the men, who were them- selves mangled almbst beyond recog- nition. There was no one near the shed at the moment the bolt from the sky darted down and touched the dyna- mite to its destructive energy, but the force of the explosion was felt as far away as two miles, according to testimony of persons who lived in the section. The shed was used for housing the quarry pumps. It was about 16 by 24 feet. The bodies of the victims were brought to this city for preparation for burial. AR MAKES LEAGUE PLEA.
