Four-year-old Edward Dyson, col- ored, 630 B street southeast, was killed almost directly in front of his home vesterday afternoon by an au- tomobile driven by Miss Eieanor Pearson, twenty-seven, 116 5th street southeast. The automobile is owned by Casco Duke, Tudor Ha! Miss Pearson was driving east on B street, when the child, running to recover a ball, darted directly in the path of the vehicle. A quick turn by Miss Pearson failed to get the car beyond reach of the running child. Suffering from a fracture of the skull and unconscious, the boy was placed in the automobile and rushed to Casualty Hospital. He was dead when the hospital was reached. Mrs. Fannie Irving Matthews, re- tired employe of the Treasury De- partment, where she worked for twenty-seven years, dled yesterday after a brief illness. She was eighty years old. Born in Louisville, Ky. Mrs. Mat- thews came to Washingion thirty years ago, and soon after began her long service in the Treasury De- partment. She was a charter member of the Montgomery Chapter, D. A. R., a member of the Church of the Cove- nant and the Eastern Star.
