e Mgrs. JOHNvanA Mac MURRAY and Louise, wife and da,u?h{zr of the head of the FarEastern Affairs Division, State De partutent Society Anticipates Gay Period of Entertainments Planned for Easter Week President and Mrs. Coolidge Will Be Hosts at Dinner Party Thursday Night—Annual Break- | fast of Congressional Club Wednesday. | SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. GAY Easter week attends society, filled with dinner parties and balls by night, luncheons, at homes, teas and other entertainments during | the day Thursday night by the President and Mrs. Coolidge for the Speaker | and Mrs. Gillett gives midwinter weight to the program. While the Capital | has lost much of its old briliancy in the Easter Sunday parade when the streets were thronged with citizens and out-of-town visitors watching to see the diplomats and smart society folk go by *o worship in various | churches, the almost unending caravan of limousines and other cars | circling the cherry tree drives in Potomac Park today gives one an even bigger vision. HERE is a veritable merry-go-round for Wednesday, when crowded into the twenty-four hours are a sufficient number of interesting affairs to norma’ly last a week. For the daylight hours there is first the Congressional Club's annual breakfast at Rauscher’s, with Mrs. Coolidge | as honor guest and an incomparable program of wit and wisdom; cabinet | afternoons at home which in this day and time furnish an official novelty in- stead of an official routine; a diplomatic reception when the minister of Esthonia and Mme. Piip will celebrate the anniversary of the Esthoniar ronstituents’ assembly and a society circus which all of the social worl will wish to attend either afternoon or evening, whether able to do so or not. THE Bible saying, “Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof,” will apply only to the bodily fatigue of a hostess who essays a peep at each ieading event of the afternoon of Wednesday, for pleasure wi'l lead on to the night hours when the Secretary of War and Mrs, Weeks will be guests at digner of Gen. Dumont, French military attache; the undersecretary of state and Mrs. Phillips will entertain at dinner at beautiful Beauvoir for al- most the last time, before they leave for Belgium, and Mrs. Thomas F. Walsh will give a large dinner party that night. SCARCELY less brilliant will be other days and nights of the week for society folk, and Tuesday night the Pan-American Union bui'ding will fend all its picturesque charm of background to the dinner party and later the reception to be given by the special mission from Panama in honor o the Secretary of State and Mrs. Hughes. There will be music and dancing | during the time of the reception, and, if the weather permits, there will be an added charm in the Aztec garden as a sitting-out place. The minister of Ecuador and Mme. Elizalde have a dinner on for that night, as have Capt. and Mrs. Andrews, who will entertain for the Secretary of the Navy and Mrs. Curtis; Maj. and Mrs, Parker W. West will give a dinner for \h:'l ambassador of Cuba and Senora de Torriente, and there will be a dinner | with the charge d'affaires of Brazil and Mme. de Sousa Leao Gracie as hosts. ENATOR AND MRS. JAMES W. WADSWORTH, JR., will have guests | at dinner tomorrow night preceding the presentation of “America,” Griffith’s fi'm at Poli’s, and a number of other carly dinner parties will be entertained before the film showing and the Dixie ball. The assistant secretary of the Treasury and Mrs. Eliot Wadsworth will entertain the former undersecretary of state and Mrs. William Phillips at dinner Friday | night, the dinner being one of many in their honor before they sail for Belgium in May. There is an affiliation between the new American am- | bassador to Belgium and the roya! 1amily in that both are fond of children | znd Mr. and Mrs. Larz Anderson and others in Washington treasure photo- | szraphs of the king and queen surrounded by their charming family, while Mr. and Mrs. Phillips present a rare and beautiful picture of wholesome American life in their family of little ones. ‘ E Dixie ball tomorrow night is an annual event of more than twenty years’ standing and in it will figure a large contingent of the social world, though it is more local than official. Mrs. Coolidge, who has so graciously permitted her name to be used as patroness of dozens of helpful movements, has given it to head the list of sponsors for this charming annual ball. PROPOS of the week is the Easter recital of the “Sacred Flame,” a recent masterpiece in literature put into entertainment form and pre- rented at Trinity Community Center. 3d and C streets northwest, Wednes- day night, at 8:15 o'clock, by Jean Wilson. dramatic and humorous mono- logist of rare attainment, assisted by Myra, McCathran Marks, singing eharming old songs and wearing charming old and quaint costumes, and ‘Winifred McGregor Michaelson. Mrs. John Prender, president of St. Mark’s Woman's Club, is in charge. Society Circus Scheduled At Fort Myer Wedneaday The society circus which will be siven at Fort Myer Wednesday after- | noon and evening is of much interest to society here. The debutante drill will have for captain Mrs. Donal W. Sawtelle, who was formerly Miss Hleanor Anthony, and has won many prizes at horse shows in and around ‘Washington. \ The uniform that will be womn by “he ladies in the debutante troop will bo sleeveless coats of yellow sateen | fastened with one large pear! button. | worn over a white silk shirt walst with Peter Pan collar, with yellow satin tie to match, white serge riding breeches with boots and spurs, to- gether with white felt overseas caps piped with yellow.
