O, JANUARY 13, 1924_PART T Reprinted from the Post Monday, January 7th Pipe Bursts in Goldenberg’s Store, Flooding Place With 12,000 Gallons of Water A broken pipe in an automatic fire sprinkling system flooded Golden- berg's department store at Seventh and K streets northwest with 12,000 gallons of water and the rear of two homes on Eighth street. Damage to the department store would not run over $5000, Millard Robey, assistant manager, said. The pipe on the third floor of an annex to the main building became uncoupled. The cond floor was covered with fiv ches of water when firemen arrived. A geyser shot up from the water tower on the roof and cascaded System Tntricate. sprinkling system from turning off e flow. and the geyser was in action ten minutes. Mr. Robey said the sprinkling sys- tem had Leen inspected ten days ago. He did not attribute the sudden un- coupling to cold, as there was heat in the building.
