HERE are two kinds of music that never grow old and that every- body, from the smallest child to the oldest inhabitant, thoroughly enjoys. They are Christmas music and Easter music. Some of the Christmas music is simple in structure and some of it is very complicated. Celtic carols are among them. The birth of Christ has probably inspir, other subject, cven more so than His death and resurrection. Old French, Welsh, German, English and ed more musicians than any Many peo- ple today do not know that in the first centuries of the Christian Church Christmas was not observed, because it was the custom to mark the death rather than the birth of famous individuals It was in the fourth century that the first celebration of the birth of Jesus was held. Tomorrow., Monday and on Christmas day the citizens of the Dis- trict of Columbia will show in their attendance at the churches of the various denominations that they uphold the musical observance of this day of days Carols, cantatas, arias from oratorios and beautiful organ | music will offer fine selections to those who would choose the musicai program to which they prefer to listen while doing homage to the birth of the Savior The soft tinkle of chimes is constantly in the air, and suggests the atmosphere of contentment and peace that this Yuletide music should bring after the rush and confusion of preparation for the great holiday.
