To Every Washingtonian: Had you lived when Westminster Abbey or any other great Cathedral of Europe was being built you would, as a citizen, have wanted some share in that great religious campaign. The campaign in Washington for funds to build the National Cathedral has in-a few days brought the realization that the cathe- dral spirit of the fourteenth century lives in the hearts of the people of this community. Already morethan $800,000 have been sub- scribed. And this despite the fact that the inevitable limitations of time made it impos- sible for those who have been devoting their days to the Cathedral project personally to call.upon all those who wish to play some part in building this witness to the faith of the Today, feeling sure that those whom we have been unable te reach in person will understand why they have not been called upon, we are inviting the great Washington public, regardless of creed, to place their dol- lars and, more important still, their names as Cathedral builders, behind the Cathedral foundation. We are confident that many will avail themselves of this opportunity before the Washington campaign closes on the day be- fore Christmas, the birthday of the Founder of Christianity. We ask, with all earnestness, your cooperation and your fellowship in our undertaking. We invite you to play your indiyidual part in a splendid project---to the pride .of our city, the security of our govern- ment and the deepening of that high faith without which nothing can endure. John Hays Hammond, Chairman of Washington Committee. Newboid Noy.res, Campaign Chairman. From the National !
