CUTIN MISSIONARY BUDGET RESTORED Adventists Send Word . to Representatives in Many Foreign Lands. Announcement that the cut of 281, per cent made in the budget of mis- slonarles of the Seventh Day Adventist denomination to China, India, Japan, Africa, various parts of South America and the islands of the sea has been re- stored is being cabled to those in for- eign countries on mission work by the forelgn mission board, it was stated today. The cut n the budgets was made last October. “‘Because of the financlal de- pression which came after the world war,” the statement avers, “the Ad- ventists' mission board was forced to bring its church work in foreign lands practically to a standstill, and the prop- osition of recalling missionaries was given serious consideration at the la: convention of the mission board held Kansas City, Mo., in October. Offerings Increased. “Yesterday announcement was made that the believers in North America in- creased their offerings more than half a million dollars above what was antici- pated, thus making it possible to re store 'to all the mission stations abroad the 2815 per cent reduction that was made in October and allow the treasurs a good healthy surplus with which to carry forward new work in a numbe: of places.” Elder W. A. Spicer, president of t| General Conference and Forelgn Mis slon Board, said yesterday that ever: distress signal has been hauled down the missionaries will continue theit work along the same progressive lines and new recruits will also be sent out “Not only are cablegrams being sen: to make the foreign missionaries hap- py.” he sald, “but the believers of North America are being sent words of appreciation for their faithful respons. in bringing relicf to a distressing situx tion.” Prospects for 1923. Prof. Shaw, treasurer of the missior board, in sending word to the union and state ‘conference presidents, said: “If the same splendid spirlt of co- operation and generous giving_ shall continue during 1923 as was evidenced in the latter part of 1922, we can ho! our missionaries at their posts and fi many urgent calls for workers. We feel assured the earnest efforts of our breth- ren and sisters in the homeland will be greatly appreciated by our missionari in the foreign lands. The self-sacrific- ing love which has been manifested th past few months will serve as a cor vincing argument to our people around the world. “Just now the storm clouds in Europe look heavy and dark. Our work in Ger- many is in trouble. Recently we re- ceived the following radio message fron Brethren Christian, Raft and Pedersen: “* ‘Economic plight Germany most di tressing. Money drops. Prices ris. Three unions utterly unable to meet sf uation. Immediate help imperative. D! vision lacks funds. Committee reques: twenty-one thousand dollars special ap- propriation.
