Two years are given for explora- tion and the concession runs for twenty years, with provision for re- newal. The exploitation will bé financed en- tirely by Los Angeles capital, it is announced, and plans already are well advanced for the selection of a center for the active work of the un- dertaking. December 23.— Tic cost_of living among wage-earners’ families in the United States on No- vember 15, 1922, was 584 per cent higher than in July, 1914, according to the results of an investigation of conditions in the country announced last night by the national industrial conference board. There was an increase of 1.3 points or eight-tenths of 1 per cent between 1October 15 and November 15, brought about by continued increases in food. clothing and coal prices and higher {rents. The Increases reported for rent, though slight, were sufficiently numerous to Cause An Aaverage in- crease of 1 per cent for the country ae a whole. The average cost of sundries and of gas and electricity decreased.
