Woman Nominates Car. For the first time in the history of the local course a woman has nomi- nated a car to start the race. She is Mrs. Mae Harvey of Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Harvey~“had obtained the | services of Jerry Wonderlich to drive her machine, but lost him when he purchased a racer himself. She has not announced who will be at the wheel f her car qualifies. The ma- chine is one of a famous racing make real competition. Louis Chevrolet, Indianapolis, who designed the winning cars in 1920 and 1921, will have a half dozen or more cars entered in the race this year. Twelve of the thirty-two ma. chines which have been entered, however, were designed by the v eran engineer within the last few , but belong either’ to manu- rers or to individuals. Several of the cars this vear will try out the radio telephone. Special equipment has been installed on the cars with the idea of permitting the mechanician to keep in touch with his pit manager. After several laps on the course have been reeled off drivers and their mechanicians lose count of the distance they have tr. eled. The radlo expected to over- come this difficulty for the pilots. De Palma Nephew Driver. Peter De Palma, nephew of Ralph De Palma, will be at the wheel of one of the Louls Chevrolet creations. He is acquainted with thel ocal oval as a_mechnacian, but not as a driver. In 1920 and 1921 he rode with De Pal- ma. Last winter he was given a mount in#he Pacific coast races and showed some of the driving skill that made his uncle famous, it was said. American, French and English au- tomobiles will compete. Goux will drive one of the two machines he is bringing from France. while Hawkes will pilot his English car. Other v eran drivers who have entered in- clude Art Gelin, Eddie Hearns, Ralph Mulford, Tom Aley and Joe Thomas. The present record for the course for 500 miles is 89.84 miles per hour, < | established by De Palma in 1915, Last year's mark is the next best made for the distance, being 89.62 miles. Winners of all the 500-mile races ever run on the local track and the times follow: 44 In 1916 the race was cut te 300 miles, Dario Resta winning in 3.34.17; average 83.26 miles per hour. If the parking angle is 45 degrees try to get your car in the space as near the angle as possible. 1If parking is parallel gat both the back and front wheels as mear to the curb as you can. ' In angle parking don’t “clog up the works” by putting. vour car at a ! different angle to the next car to you. It may mean a scraped fender for you, and you will never know | who “did it. Besides that it takes up a lot of unneces: room. It is sur- prising to know that a large numbe of motorists, when pulling into space large enough to park two cars, will, nine times out of ten, take up the ‘entire space o that no one else can get in. there may not be enough room for another car and because they don't care to have another motorist try to “squeeze” in, with a chance of bending a fender or scraping a little paint. A street car platform has recently been installed directly in front of the entrance to the Palais Royal. There is hardly room for single car to pass between the plat- form and the curb.
