John A. BOND JUMPER ARRESTED. Doctor Taken on Charge of Pass- ing Alleged Worthless Checks. .Dr. E. W. Ritter, alias G. A. Gard- ner, self-styled inventor of liquid fire, master of science, etc., is-de- clared to be one of the most moted bond jumpers who has come to the attention of the local police for some tine Arrested in this city on a charge of passing an alleged worthless check, the man jumped a bond of $1,000. He was located In New York city, and within “twenty-four hours after his arrest had jumped bond there and disappeared. Detectives Keck and Bradley say the man also is wanted in other cities, where he is alleged to_have jumped his bond. He was arrested-here May 18 on.a charge of false pretense, it being charged he passed an alleged worth- less check on Charles Ricord, 1ith street and Pennsylvania avenue. He was released on $1,000 bond, and the officers charge hepassed another al- leged bad check on a local hotel and then left the city. He was located in New York, where he had)a good position, and Detective Keck went there to bring him back to Wash- ington. The officer waited to get the map, who had been liberated on the personal bond of his attorney, for a ‘hearing. He failed to appear at the hearing.
