The fund will be raised by popular subscription among the mem- bership of the order. “Pope Benedict has requested this activity on the part of the Knights of Columbus to conserve faith and aid in their mental and physical devel- opment of Italian youth,” sald Su- greme Ad\oca.te Joseph C. Pelletier of oston. “It is our aim to go into Italy and introduce American welfare work, to repay ltaly in part, the debt laid upon America when 'Columbus, the great Italian, found this western world and made it possible for Chris- tendom to extend its sphere.” Mr. Pelletler.added that it was Im- || | probable that the Knights of Colum- bu- would extend its organization r into Italy, eaying that the im- lnte plans called for the estab- llshment of an American service cen- ter in Rome under the patronage of Pope Bepedict. Supreme Knight James A. Flaherty announced that Peter Krantsze of Chicago, consul at Luxembourg, had telegraphed the first donation, $5,000. The closing session of the con- || | vention today, Mr. Pelletler added, will dispose of internal actlvities for the en- |l | suing twelve months and would consider the Irish question.
