‘%‘HE SUNDAY STAR, JANUARY 2, 1921—PART 2. % -of Official Hospitality Marks New Year Day Most Prominent of Receptions Are Those Held by . Vice President and Mrs. Marshall and Act« ing Secretary of State and Mrs. Davis. BY LLIE V. H. PICKETT. THERF. was an old-time atmosphere of official hospitality abroad in Washington yesterday begot of New Year day, and those who did not hold formal or informal days at home went visit- ing. The two great objective points for callers were the reception held by: the Vice President and Mrs. Marshall at the New Willard, and the difilomatic reception held by the acting Secretary of State and Mrs. Davis. Those paying their respects to the Vice President and Mrs. Marshall in- ¢luded diplomats and official and resident society folk. while the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Davis were entirely from the diplomatic corps, the late after- noon reception taking the place of the official New Year day diplomatic Breakiast, for almost a century looked upon as the most brilliant affair in Washington in a twelvemonth % .
