The banquet room of the Shoreham pre- sented a brilliant scene Inst night and its walle rung with eloquence, laughter, applause and college songs on the occasion of the annual reunion of the Alumni Socicty of Mt. St. Mary's College at Emunitteburg, Md. 7! tendance was large, the number at the tables being over eighty, and many came from distant cities to participate in the reunion. The presence of so many clergymen was perhaps due to the fact that the corner stone of the hall of philosophy of the Catho- lic University was laid yesterday afternoon. There were two round tables, one of which was considerably larger than the other, and they were connected by a Siamese ligament that formed the dividing hne between the eccle- finstical dignitaries and the less distin- guished laymen. C. ——_-—_— The Germania Mennerchor Entertainmen) An enthusiastic audience assembled at Concor- ia Hall Monday night to witness the entertain- ment of the Germania Mennerchor given for the benefit of the German Orphan Asylum. A large orchestra discoursed beautiful music, be- ginning the entertainment with an overture. ‘Then came the Germania Menvercher chorus, who sang a song as only they can. Mr. Simon Wolf delivered the address of welcome. He spoke for fully half an hour and during his ro- marks complimented the Germania Menner- chor for the many charitable acts they had done and the assistance they had rendered the German Orphan Asylum. He also thanked the large audience for their mee and assist- ir. Chas, G. Rozier with # chorus from melodious song “Water Lily.” Prof. Montgomery's upils executed some clever fancy dances and Fielmaan gave a half hour of magic. After a brief intermission the stage was set and Julius Schroder's comedy in one act entitled “To Command His Lieutenant” was given in Ger- man. It was thronghout a lever entertain- ment and repeatedly-applauded. The cast in- cluded Messrs. WORK ON THE POWER HOUSE. ‘The Washington and Arlington Railroad Company yesterday completed the raising of two seventy-foot stacks on their power house at the corner of 90th street and the canal, and before the end of the week a 110 horse power dynamo will be in position and ready for work. Two of the company's cars arrived last week and more ar@ expected at an early date. They will be, it is said, larger than those on any line in the District. ‘The failure of the company to obtain the necessary yokes or iron supports with whieh to brace the trench that ci tho curfeut wire is causing some delay; but when they do arrive su extta exertion will be made to place them in position in double quick time. But little grading on the Virginia to be done. The route, according to its present charter, after leaving the Ar! gate and reaching the river, vicinity of the Three Sisters by means of a bridge. Thence down M street to 26th street, down 26th street to Virginia avenue and thence east to the Baltimore and Potomac depot. This route has now been found fault with by the management and an effort is being made to obtain a charter that will allow them to ran from the Baltimore and Potomac depot alon; Virginia avenue until 26th strect is reached, thence down that street and over to Analostan Island by means of a bridge to be constructed. From the ietand the mainiand will be reached by crossing near the causeway. CONCERT ATTHE COLLEGE. In the Gaston Memorial Hall at the George- town College the Washington Musical Club on ‘Tuesday night gave a concert of rare excellence. Thongh the audience was not of the largest it was an intelligent and appreciative one. and every number rendered was applauded to the echo. A strong orchestra, under the leader- ship of Mr. Herma Rakemann, opened the pro- gram. A few of the selections rondered wore: “Meditation,” Behr; ‘Petie Bijoutere,” Bohm anzonetta.” Jenson; “Valse,” E minor, Chopin, by Mr. Henry Xander, an Hern- don Morse!i’s song * ‘The first t closed with Mr. Paul Miersch’s ‘cello solos, which were fol- lowed by “Jenne Armor” and ” by Messra.
