Their names are: Harry MeC joskey, sixteen years igeou, fourteen te old, Amer Hinc . sixteen years ol watterson, sixteen years old; Albers Sixteen years old; Thomas Atela- cars old, and Ralph Frazer, In addition to the serious condition of the above it is feared many will lose their eyesight, 4s their burns are all mostly about the face. the light of day the destruction wre made more apparent of the scene seomed om pauying plumns of flames shooting ve the tallest buildings, The ruim Central Theater is complete, ouly the front wall remaiuing standing. The other walis have fallen im and fill the space they formerly enclosed. RUINS OF THE TIMES BUILDING, Directly back of the theater but a shell re mains of the cight-story building occupied by the Times. The row of stores to the east of the two burned stores and facing on Sth street and extending from Walnut to Sausom street are almost completely gutted by fire and water, ‘The police have had great difhculty in keeping the crowds of carious sight secrs moving #0 98 to give the firemen the mecessary space to work in, CROWDS AROUND THE PLAC. It was soon noised around that a number of people were buried under the walls of the theater and the crowd surged forward against the police lines in an effort to get more closely to the scene. Although it was reported last night that several members of the o had been killed it was hoped that they would eventually turn up alive and well. When, however, six of the company had not made their appearance this morning the fear thet they bad ‘met their death in the flames and smoke began to grow into a certainty, Manager Yale of the Devil's Auction Com- Pauy up to 10 o'clock persistently refused to entertain the idea that they were dead, but per- sisted im the belief that they would be found n some of the neighboring houses, But whem at that hour no tidings of any of the actors had been iearned, Mr. Yale rel admitted that they must have perished HOW THE COMPANY ESCAPED. Mr. Yale said that at the time the fire broke ‘out there was about seventy people im all be- hind the curtain, The dressing rooms were beneath the stage in the rear of the theater. ‘Two stairways, one upon the right and the other upon the left of the basement, led di- | rectly to doore that admitted to alleyways ia | the rear of the theater. All the members of the company were im their dressing rooms when the aiarm of fire @unded throughout the house All those who sought satety by the left stair way reached the strect unhurt. At this time the left side of the stage was still untouched by the fire, but the right was already o mass ef flames. The capvas, grease and paint of the scovery was like so much ot! before the advance of the Hames.and great volumes of beavy, stifling smoke were rolling over and uudernoath the stage. Itis Mr. Yale's belief that the unforta- uate wen and women, whe are supposed to be underueat's the ruins, ran toward the stairway, |that led up into this fire. Finding their escape cut off they probably coutused and blinded, and, choked by smoke, fell gasping on the stairs and in the passage way beneath the stage. Their fate then cam be only too well surmised, as it was buta few minutes after that the whole stage was ablaze. ‘The work of searching for the bodies has not commenced yet as the ruins are still hot and six fect of water fills the cellar, ‘Wm, J. Gilmore, proprietor of the theater, was much overcome today by the tragedy which has taken piace at his house. He bas been im receipt of telegrams from theatrical managers all over tue country offering bim |sympathy. The board of directors of the Academy of Music this morning tendered ‘Mr. Gilmore the use of the theater for a bene- fit for himself and the company. While de- | clining the offer on hixown behalf Mr. Gilmore | aceepted gratefully for the company. The | theater will be rebuilt at ouce. Several people | who were in the audience and who were re~ ported missing returned to their homes this morning.
