To speak of an alliance member of the Honse is a very vague and uncertain way of designat- ing the man’s party allegiance. For instance, Nichardson of Tennessee, Joe Washington of the same stato and Clark Lewis of Mississippi are members of the alliance, though th do not associate their names with th movement and they are known politicaliy only asactive democtais of good stand: arty. There is quite a number of other mem- ers in Congress who have subscribed to the constitution of the alliance, but are ardent “old pacty” men. Ox the other hand, “Tor” Watson, who was the alliance candida peaker and got the Votes of ali the alliance mea who ke old party caucus, is not = member of thi liance at all. He is a lawyer and is, therefore, not eligible to membership in the allience. The alliance folks, however. regard bim as a leader, looking upon his profession as merely an unfortunate technicality which disbars him from membership in their order. NOT A STRIKING FEATURE. ‘The members of this politico-industrial order do not form any conspicuous or striking feature of the House. Some of them are re- garded as cranks, but the fraternity of cranks in Congress extends far beyond the limits of this order, so that that is no distinguishing feature, nor do they as a rule dress or look different irem the average of the House. The guides have slowly made the acquaintance of the ether prominent alliance men and point them out to visitors, not forgetting various interesting anecdotes, more remarkable for picturesquezess of invention than for strict historical accuracy. “Jerry” Simpson, whobas acquired a national reputation as the “sockless Jerry,” is really the keenest man in the whole orzanization. — His has already become familige to the coun- try, being seen on his stumping tours cast, south and west end his picture having been rinted in about half the papers of the country. {e is too far removed from the political fakir to try to make himeelf conspicucas by reason of eccentricities of dress or manner. He has been president of the Kansas alliance and the industrial Union, and is credited with being the leader of th revolt against the old parties in Kansas. The opinions he possesses he is free toexpress when there is any ocenxion for it, and he will prob- ably do some taiking in the House. OTT. From politician's point of view Mr. Otis may be considered » pronounced crank. He is said to be a born kicker and reformer. Ho is thick set, baldheaded and wears gray whiskers. At one time he was a republican, but he no longer owns allegiance to that party, having in the exercise of his perogative asa kicker kicked entirely over the traces. He is credited with considerable general knowledge, but is always extreme, and is an erratic talker. Ho takes pride in the declaration that he has since the war been “a most uncompromising greenbacker and advocate of a new American monetary system in the interest of the indus trial classes. W. He BAKER. It is not expected that W. I. Baker will take yactive part in the House. ie isa short, thick-set man with a bald head, very slow of ech and slew of motion Deliberate in all things, he is regarded by the alliance folks as a man of good judgment, who will not be very aggressive generally, but will do just what he thinks right after mature consideration. MR. HALVERSON is not accused of being vain of his whiskers, but such vanity might be excusable, for his rival the far-famed whiskers of Maj. Handy, through which the winds of mai climes have blown. Mr. Halverson’s chin is close shaven. His whiskers spread out from his cheeks about ona line with bis mustache.
