No Belief in the Story That the Charleston Has Sunk Her. ‘There was no news of the Itata or the Charles- ton at the Navy Department this morning. No credence is given to the report: that the Charleston has sunk the Itata. In the first place it is said that news of such an event could only be received through the arrival of the Charleston at some point connected with the telegraph lines, which has not, so far, occurred. In the second Place, nobody supposes that the Itats would resist the Charleston, for she is totally unpre- Pared to do £0, and even if she attempted it the Charleston could readily gubdue her force without resorting to the extreme measure of “blowing her out of the water,” as it is she has done. It is apparent that the Navy Department officials are somewhat puzzled to account for the lack of news from the yessels and are obliged to content themselves" with the theo , that the rleston is not pursuing a course, but is steaming chaily to und fro, hauling and examining m t steamers and look- ing around the islands off the upper Mexican ROCK CREEK PARK. SECRETARY BLAINE'S EXACT CONDITION s Mr. Parnell Loses an Influential Supporter. SENATOR GORMAN HONORED. THE LYMPH GIVEN UP, Philadelphia Hospitals Abandon Its Use, Owing to Its Great Danger. ‘May 14.—A local paper says: In all the hospitals of the city the use of the Koch lymph for the cure of tuberculosis bas been practically discontinued. Where there is no absolute discontinuance of the topic agent, it is only being experimented with in » few selected cases. Even in these special cases tho treatment of the lymph is becoming narrower and narrower in scope. Resident physicians of the hospitals say the fluid has proved to be of such small value that, together with the great danger attached to experimentation, there is no reasonable escape from abandoning it. ALBrguenqre, N.M., May 14.—The waters are slowly subsiding and the recent advices from Espanola, above this city, says that the river has fallen 33 inches since Friday noon. No damage has been done to this city, and the volume of water in the river has eo decreased that no possible da: can ensue. At Barelias, below . the east bank has gradually worn away until it is within a few yards of the railroad track, but the company are ripping and constructing « wing dam, 80 the track is now regarded aa axfe.
