HOUSE. —— Mr. McCreary (Ky.), from the committee on foreign affairs reported a resolution request- ing from the President any correspondence with the Mexican government in regard to the employment in the regular army of the United States of Indian scouts for the purpose of pur- | | suing hostile Indians in their raids into the | territories of the United States, and any corre- | spondence in regard to the proposed trausfer | of the Apache xad Chiricahua Indians from Mount Vernon barracks, Alabama, to Fort Sill, Indian territory. Adopted. The morning hour was consumed in a dis- cussion of the bill providing for the compul- oy attendance of witnesses before registers reeeivers of land offices, which was passed. PUBLIC BUILDING BILLS. The House then in committee of the whole (Mr. Payson LIL, in the chair) resumed the consideration of public building measures. The first bill called up was that increasing from $350,000 to $650,000 the limit of cost of | the public buildings at Newark and making an sppro riation of the $300,000 increase, Jount (Ga.) raised the point of order eat it was not within the power of the com- littee on public buildings and grounds to rec- ommend an appropriation. Mr. Milliken (Me.) expressed his willingness to strike out the appropriation clause, but Mr. Blount would not agreed to this, insisting that the question was an important one and shotid be decided upon a pout of order, —— ie DISTRICT DAY iN THE HOUSE. Bills of Local Interest Which May be Taken Up Mouday. Next Monday will be District day in the House and with good luck considerable legisia- tion will be accomplished. There are already seven bills on the House calendar re- lating to the District, most of which will probably be considered on Monday. The first of these relates to the shortening of the term of imprisonment in the Jail and work house of the District on account of good behavior. Another vests in the vestry of Christ church all the right and title tosquare sovth of square 1092 in Washington. It is the opinion of the committee that this entire lot of bills will be pas-ed with little or Bo opposition. Most of them are merely formal bills, altering slightly acts already passed. THE ECKINGTON AND SOLDIERS HOME RAILWAY BILL, The only bill likely to bring out much discus- sion is the one amending the charter of the Eckington and Soldiers Home railroad.
