The Annapolis Cadets and Local Teams Will Play Two Games. ents have been made for a regular festival of foot ball here Christmas. In the morning at 11 o'clock the Kendall Green deaf mute team will play a match with the Orients, @ team composed of Capitol Hill boys that has done highly creditable work in matches with the other local teams. Christmas afternoon at 3 o'clock the foot ball team of the Annapolis naval acad- emy will play a picked eleven composed of the best players of the local teams. The morning game will be of especial local interest, as the the Kendall team ranks high. Two of the Kendall team who were in the team that played against the Princetons attracted general attention by their quick and strong play. For the aftcrnoon game the best material will be selected from the Duponts, Kendalls, Orients and Georgetowns. The cadets have a rattling good team They are not allowed to play often away from Annapolis, and efforts had to be made to get Permission from the Secretary of the Navy efore this match for Christmas could be arranzed. The cadets, by reason of their playing so much by themiclves, have devel- oped many interesting tricks of play that other foot ball teams know nothing of. Chu Fong Secures $30,000 by Means of Forged Checks. The firm of Kwong Hong Long, 5 Mott street, New York, Chinese importers, of which the Chinese defaulter, Chew Fong, was a partner and acting cashier and interpreter, was put under the charge of a sheriff by some of Chu Fong’s victims Saturday, and almost simulta- neously the Mausingson Japanese store at 813 Broadway was attached tothe amount of $9,000 by several American creditors of the absconded manager, The firm of Kwong Hong Long was made the indorser of all of Chu Fong's notes and forged checks, the poor English signatures of the firm being imitated very easily by the forger. The banks which paid these checks were the Bowery, National and Oriental, The combined interest of Chu Fong in both of the — not amount to 24,000 and his liabili- ties have thus far been footed up to over $27,000. He is a Christianized Chinaman. ‘The story of his running away with an American girl isnow denied, but instead he hadsimply swindled the young woman’s father out of several thou- sand dollars of borrowed money. According to Chinese law a blood reiative is responsible for the debts of another. Mr. Chu Fong Wing, the head of the Kwong Hong Long firm, is an uncle of the defaulter, and the Chinese victims of the latter all look to him for compensation. ———s00 Why Powderly Was Not Arrested. Constable Washabaugh of Greensburg ar- rived in Scranton, Pa., Saturday with a war- rant for the arrest of General Master Work- man Powderly of the Knights of Labor on an alleged charge of conspiracy, preferred by Ed- ward Callahan of Scottdale. His arrival was unheralded and he did not even call at police headquarters but went directly to the office of Alderman Fuller with his warrant from the Greensburg justice and asked that Mr. Fuller indorse it. The latter examined the document carefully and refused to accede to the Greens- burg constable’s request, on the ground that no crime was alleged in the warrant. Washa- baugh demurred, and Alderman Fuller, in order to satisfy him, requested him to accom- pany him before President Judge Archibald that his opinion might be obtained. Judge Archibald coincided with Alderman Fuller, and moreover advised the constable not to attempt anarrest on the warrant. Washabaugh then left town, presumably. for Greensburg.
