The population of theso nine prrishes s 30,94 whites and 54,033 blacks, according to the census of 1870, IN THE SUGAN-PRODUCING FARISHES the arcertained facts discover an equal if not a greatot amout of ruin and muffering. These parisbes ard Pointe Coupee, East Baton Rougs, Weat Baton Rougey Sty Iberville, Ascension, Assumption, La Fourche, James, 5, John the Bagtiste, St. Charica, Terre Benno, and Plaquemine. The overflow in these parisbes cove 500,000 acree, tilled and untilled, including of 30,000 hogaheads of sugar, benldes 4 large product of rico and the crops of sinail farmers, of whom there are many hundreds, who have LOST THEIR sToCK, and pretty much overstning else they possess. The population of these pirishes, sccording to the census of 1§70, was 50,348 whutes, and 72,241 blscks, making & total of 122,660, from which must bo deducted the population of East Baton Rouge, as a simall portion of that parish ban suffered from overflow.
