PAGETWENTY --. - tends vertically in front of the center THE monic balancer, on the Pontiac for BISMARCK TRIBUNE - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1929 (OAKLAND BECOMES STVLE CREATOR IN - PIONEERING CAREER Fisher Craftsmen and Engineers Have Built in Eight Ma-~ jor Improvements Achieving popularity beyond any of (ts predecessors, the newest Oakland All-American six, despite having been introduced late in 1928, continues a leading magnet at the Automobile show. “Something entirely new” is the popular verdict accorded the line, with emphasis placed particularly upon the unique and diferent body lines, which rank the Oakland Motor Car company as a style creator as well as a pioneer of engineering and chassis refinements. Seven body types are in the line: Four-door sedan, two-door sedan, convertible cabriolet, coupe, sport roadster. sport phaeton and a new convertible cabriolet and landaulet sedan. Both latter types. bordering on the custom-built, are introduced in the Oakland line for the first time in the 1929 models. Prices range from $1145 to $1375 f. 0. b. factory. Fisher craftsmen working in con- junction with Oakland engineers built into the bodies eight major improve- ments: Correct seating position both front and rear, freedom from rumble and rattle, rigid bracing, durability, strength and safety, form-fitting cushions, side cowl ventilators, and adjustable driver's seat. The side cowl ventilators operate by foot. control, and add a smart touch to the exterior appearance of the car, at the same time providing for great- er comfort in warm-weather driving. In addition to the side ventilators, the convertible cabriolet has a top cowl ventilator. Minute attention to detail carried out in every body type extends even to a rear vision mirror, which this year is constructed of colored glass so that at night the reflected glare of a following headlight will not blind the driver. An outstanding new feature partic- ularly attractive to women drivers is the adjustable driver's seat in all closed models. The entire seat, back and all, moves forward or backward approximately three inches by a con- veniently placed and easily operated knob adjustment. The instrument panel represents a direct lighting method formerly in vogue. The new All-American panel finished in a dignified black, has two direct lamps which illuminate the board with soft reflected light. In- struments, symmetrically grouped and mounted directly on the dash. include an 80 mile speedometer, gasoline gauge, oil gauge, ammeter, ignition lock, lighting switch choke and throttle buttons, and windshield wiper control. All instrument dials have a black finish with white figures. Sweeping one-piece fenders with a 7i-inch spread, seamless and with a beaded edge, contribute to the dash- ing low lines of the car. Cowl bar an] parking lamps are new and brilliantly finished in chome plate. Headlamps, stop light, tail lamp and filer cap also follow a new design and carry the same bril- Mant finish. Bodies, while in appearance lower ‘and smarter than a year ago, have not sacrificed head room, an effect achieved by arching the roof and slightly raising the belt line. Win- dows are arched, and are bordered ‘by reveals set off by a narrow bead. Included in the list price of every model ace four Lovejoy hydraulic Shock ubsorbers and fitted spring 2overs. The covers assure flexibility and freedom from squeaks for many thousands of miles by retaining a Special cpring lubricant inserted at ‘he factory, and by keeping dirt ‘4nd grit from contact with the metal. PONTIAC IS BIGGER, PLERTER, SMARTER, BUILDERS ASSERT More Powerful 1929 Engine Drives Car That Has Add- ed Lines of Grace of the core. Water control by a ther- mostat built into the cylinder head also is retained. On all models form-fitting spring covers which, by keeping dirt from contact with the metal, assure free- dom from squeaks and easy riding; four Lovejoy hydraulic shock absorb- ers, and front bumpers and rear fender guards are regular equipment at slight extra cost. Smart low wheels of the heavy artillery 10-spoke type, with large hub caps and {.anges, take 29 by 5,00 non-skid cord tires. Seven models comprising the line are a four-door sedan, two-door se- dan, sport roadster with folding rumble seat, sport phaeton, coupe, and two new types—a custom-Hke landaulet sedan with a folding top over the rear quarter section for all- weather driving, and a convertible cabriolet with rumble seat. A redesigned crankshaft, fully counterweighted and statically and dynamically balanced, and a har- io first time gue year, bor t) to car’s capable and ‘tionless Performance. Other factors making the power output more efficient include semi- steel pistons, high compression G-M- R cylinder head, larger manifold, larger carburetor with accelerating Pump and fuel economizer, larger in- take valves and increased valve lift, more uniform and silent valve action, Lane facpiworet to ay and con- ing arings, fuel pump, gas filter, air deflector and ci “S ventilator which carries water vapor from the crankcase, delivers fumes beneath the car, and renders unnec- Changes in the transmission make Possible quieter gear shifting and re- duces wear on the gears.
