ACCEPTED BY COUNCIL Resignation of Mayor Lud- ington Acted Upon at Meet- ing This Afternoon. APPOINTMENT OF SUCCESSOR AT FUTURE MEETING. Probability That Member of Coum cil Will Be Named Acting Mayor. The resignation of J. A. Lud- ington as mayor of the city was accepted at a meeting of the city council held this afternoon at the city hall and at which all mem- bers of the council were present. Mayor Ludington briefly outlined his reasons for wishing to retire from the service of the city, giv- ing substantially the same rea- sons as were published in the Pioneer last night. No action to appoint a succes- sor to Mayor Ludington was taken, and the matter will not come up until the regular meet- ing of the council next Tuesday evening. Speculation is rife as to who will be appointed to take Mr. Ludington’s place as chief ex- ecutive of the village, butas yet there has been no intimation given out as to who will be named as his successor. It is very probable, however, that one of the members of the council will be chosen, there is a question as to whether or not the position will be accepted by one of the members, as the troubles and difficulties met by the mayor during the past year have illus- trated that the office is one which requires the utmost care and at- tention. Providing the council- men all refuse to accept, it will be necessary to appoint an out- sider, and much interest is mani fested as to who will receive the appointment. French is Chosen. Late this afterncon ;J, H. French was elected to succeed Mr. Ludington, the vote standing two to one. Later. Tt is claimed that the vote stood 2 to 2 thus making vo elec- tion. It was thought at first Mr. Hazen, who was in the chair, did not yote. WOODMEN HOLD CONVENTION Meeting to Elect Delegate to State Convention Being Held This Afternoon.
