THANKSGIVING FEAST MAY NOT BE $0 GOOD THS YEA First Turkey Shipment This Year Disappointing to the Dealers. The first carload of birds for the Thanksgiving feast day arrived in the Bronx yesterday and dealers expressed themselves as anything but satisfied with the prospects. The shipment was all ‘‘on the hoof,"’ as they say in the Poultry middleman’s parley. They are for the most part of the Texas variety, which, as every one will tell you if you're at all interested, do not come to the market so good because of their cottonseed diet. Those of the Maryland brand, corn- fed and usually choiee, are not up to the usual grade. At that, they'll re- tall for something between 60 and 65 cents a pound. “The Turkey situation,’ said a Bronx dealer, ‘is due to the unusu- ally mild weather we have had. That always works against good turkeys at Thanksgiving time+rand at Christmas too, for that matter. “When it's warm tho birds scatter all over the country. When it's cold, however, they gather at the farms and stick pretty close to shelter. This enables the farmers to fatten them up for the market. The only fatten- Ing so far this year has been prac- tised upon the few that could be rounded up for the slaughter.” Many of tho wholesalers in the Bronx have cut thelr orders for tur- keys one half, At A ur wifts'’s, Wilson's and all the other big packing id they would be carloads cach @nder houses it was trom two to f to dealers, his year and to 18 cents ding are of a better will. retail at fr per pound, while { quantity ond of 1b aud be available at from 10 to ents. RU REFERENDU URGED IN JERSEY ASONEOF3TESS Legislature Likely to Get a Resolution to Submit Issue to Voters in 1923. TRENTON, N. J., Noy. 16.—Fol- lowing the sweeping wet victory in New Jersey which carried Gov. Ed- wards, Democrat, to the United States Senate, and ex-Judge George - zer, also Democrat, to the Go chair, the Legislature, Republican in complexion, plans to consider three tests of the Prohibition question early in the segsign, opening in January. The first test expected is that pro- posed by Senator-elect Emmerson L. Richard, a Liberal Republican of At- lantic County, who yesterday declared that inasmuch as the Republican Party should cut away from the Anti- Saloon League, he will introduce a bill in the Senate to repeal the Ho- bart State Phohibition Enforcement Act, put through the Legislature last winter at the behest of the Antl- Saloon League. The second test will be on a resolu- tion Mr. Richard declared he will tn- troduce to the effect that New Jersey Congressmen and United States Sen- ators be urged by the Legislature to work for a modification of the Vol- stead act. The third, and probably the most important test is expected to be a resolution to submit the question of Prohibition enforcement, by repealing the Hobart act or the legalizing of Nght wines and beer, to the voters of the State in the 1923 general electiort. The chief sponsor of the State Pro- hibition referendum is State Treas- urer William T. Read, Republican of Camden, chief Heutenant of for- mer United States Senator David Baird, the South Jersey Republican leader. This resolution will likely be presented by Senator Wallworth of Camden. Approval of the plan is said to be quite general in political circles. The plan was explained to the Essex MOVIE ACTRESSES AND THEIR HAIR Did it ever occur to you that every movie actress you have seen has lovely hair, while the most popular count their curls as their chief In fact, many are leading of their attractive of their hair by care- not with any soap or inakeshift, but with a simple mix- ture by putting a teaspoonful of can- throx (which they get from the drug- gist) in a cup of het water and ap- plying this instead of soap, This full cup of shampoo liquid is enough so it is easy to apply it to all the hair instead of just the top of the’ head.
