THE FEMININE GENDER SELECTS THE LITTLE THINGS TO MAKE AN EASTER WARDROBE We Are Using Our Grandmothers’ Paisley Shawls to Make Dresses Classed in the Heigit of Fashion, and We Are Making By Margery Wells. Copyright, 1922, (The New York Evening World) by Press Publishing Company. FTBER the essentials of your A wardrobe have been assem- bled, you begin to look around und wonder what little things you can udd to the general ensemble to make it a thing that is more complete. Don’t be alarmed about yourself when this contingency arises. It is the most exquisitely feminine thing that you can do, and every woman, no matter how she may fight the idea, is secretly wondering about the same thing. There are so many jast minute ap- pendages which make the wardrobe a real thing of beauty and without which it remains quite uninteresting. You must have the small details that suit your personality before you can boast that your wardrobe is anything like complete. And over these you must ponder and think and plan, be- eause unless you bring every consid- eration into your scheme the things you buy and make will never be wholly satisfactory. If American women need to do any one thing more than another about their clothes in general, it is to think about them. When a French woman goes a-shopping she looks and looks and studies with all the con- entration that would make a million- aire in this country. She does not buy one single accessory until she is sure that it is the one thing above all others which will serve to make her collection of gowns as a whole more complete We can learn something from her—-more care, more foresight, more economy, more art We can give more attention to the little things which, finally, go to make up the whole A Paisley Shawl Revival. As I go around to the openings of the American designers, I see every where evidence of the use of the Paisley shawl, either as a whole or in pieces as a decoration for various gar- ments. It is something which, very subtly, has crept into the realm of the fashions of the day, but. it is there to stay, at least for one season. Now it behooves everyone who has a Pais- ley shawl, or any remote access to one, to get busy and recreate it into something that is decidedly smart and up to the minute of fashion. In the picture you will see an entir« dress made out of a Paisley shawl, Do you know how it was done? It was just folded in the centre and then a regular chemise dress was cut out of it. And just see how excellent is the effect of the young lady dressed in the simplest of frocks made out of her grandmother's best party wrap! Just so does history repeat itself, Something that is really good at one point of the progression of women's dress is bound always to be good at any point. And so if you have any heirlooms of just this sort, bring SW, C¢ Separate anklet of leather. It is not enough to have a slipper buckle these days. But you must have an anklet buckle to match. Well, if you wear bracelets around your arms, why not anklets above your pumps? They are graceful enough, to be sure. They bring out the taper- ing shape of your ankle and they are a form of decoration that is particu- larly suitable to the sort of slippers which are to be seen accompanying the dresses which American girls are wearing in the evenings. Some of the slippers have straps attachgt to them which clasp about the ankles, but the ones that are shown in the picture are quite sep- arate, being designed to be separate bands that clasp straight around the ankles. Paisley Trimmings. Many of the new gowns have strips of Paisley shawl] meant for trimming. There are strips placed around the hem of a skirt, or about the edges of the wide and flowing sleeves which are so very fashionable just now. There are other pieces of Paisley which are used as insets under the arms of otherwise plain gowns and which extend jnto the wide sleeves either to make them entirely or to form portions of them. There are Paisley belts and Paisley collars. There are Paisley edges to skirts. In fact, every way in which this trim- ming can conceivably be used has been resorted to in connection with the most modern of the styles, Sweaters Have Wide Sleeves. It was only to be supposed that the sleeves of the sweaters would follow the styles of sleeves designed for dresses And, of course, they have Suggestion for the use of the tamily heirloom, shawl the Paisley sleeves and 1s for trimming NO) ISD NS UNDERWS900 aia MOE RYOOO done so even sooner than we had an- ticipated, The picture. on this pog ws the sort of sweater that is be knitted by hand as the very most recent de velopment of that woollen jacket which is so popular with all Amer can girls.
