Brunen, who made a business of en- gaging actors and musicians for dances and private entertainments, was murdered in his home at River- side, near here, last night under c' cumstances that suggest to the police the bard work which came to the New York police after the murder of Joseph B,. Elwell and to the Los Angeles and Hollywood police after the killing of William Desmond ‘Taylor, the moving picture director. Mr. Brunen’s body was found on the floor of the kitchen of his home. He had apparently been reading at the kitchen table, A full load of bird- shot had been fired into the top of his neck, tearing away the base of the brain. Neighbors told the detectives that an automobile stopped in front of Brunen’s home last evening. Three men got out and one entered the house. He returned in a few mo- ments, re-entered the car with the others and drove away. No unusual sound was heard while he was in the house. No one noted the number of the car, though the police have a fairly close description of the man who was ‘| to come out of the house.
