GUNMEN SHOOT TWO IN HOLD-UP IN JERSEY CITY Six Bandits Get $1,000 in| Two Raids—Three Arrests. Bix armed bandits held up two saloons in Jersey City early yester- day morning and escaped after rob- bing the saloons and their occupants of about $1,000 in cash and jewelry, besides shooting two of their victims who failed to obey the robbers with sufficient alacrity. ‘The first raid was in the saloon of Tony Sigilio at No. 247 Railroad Ave- nue, Jersey City. Detective Captain Daniel,Casey of the Jersey City police was standing @ block away, but the robbers had disappeared by the time one of the saloon and yelled for help. Inside of a few minutes it was learned that the same six had held up another saloon two vlocks away, had shot two men in the second place und ‘had escaped while Capt. Caney ‘was running to the scene.. The sec- | ond hold-up was in the saloon of Michael Angelo at First and Colgate Streets. Angelo and others in the place resisted the bandits when they | demanded money. The robbers began | firing and Angelo was struck in the mouth, chest and abdomen. Alfred Sontag fell slightly wounded. Three frightened victims had run out of the! , called packers’ dec! arrests were made later, but none of | the prisoners were identified. ‘Three armed men held up the cafe of John Smith at No. 342 St. Ann's Avenue, Bronx, Friday night and robbed Smith and others of $500 in jewels and money, tt became known ssterday. Lyons, personal friend of the late ex-President Theodo-e Roosevelt and proprietor of a Bowery restaurant which was a eendezvous for police and other public officials fifteen years ago, is dead at his home, No. 455) Ninth Street, Brooklyn. When Mr, Lyons retired from busi- ness in 1907, he had finished twenty- eight years as a caterer at No. 259 Bowery. When Roosevelt was Pt lice Commissioner he visited Lyon restaurant and a warm friendship| = sprung up between the two. Mr. Lyons was a veteran of the Civil War, He enlisted at the age of seventeen in the 5th Louisiana Brig- ade from New Orleans. His elemen- tary knowledge of food was gained while serving in the commissary de- partment of that brigade. He was seventy-elght years old.
