won 4 NEIGHBORS SAVE PRIEST IW SUSPICIOUS BLAZE Rectory of Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Is Damaged. Neighbors saved Father John Sal- erno, former pastor of the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Mount Car- mel, from death in a fire which dam- aged the rectory adjoining the church at No, 12 McLean street, Pas- sate, N. J., early thigymorning. They broke a window and dragged out the priest, who had been overcome by smoke. He was restored to conscious- ‘uess by Dr. Michael Liebson. The police are investigating a re- port that the fire may have been of Incendiary origin. Several months ago Father Salerno resigned the pas- torate of the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel to go to another church in South Jersey, Before he took the new post, however, he changed his mind and continued to occupy the rectory. Meanwhile another priest, who had! become pastor of the Passaic church, had to content himself with other quarters. This split the parishioners into factions and there has been some bitterness shown. 1 A summer eyeglass necessity at a popular price Amber or Smoke Eye-Glasses at 50 centsa pair.
