They are believed to be on a steam Vighter bound for Northport, Long Island, A night watchman gave the alarm at half past five o'clock. Ho eaid the two were not in the dormitory. He had found all of the prisoners in their cots @nd apparently asleep on his tour an hour before. All the keepers were routed out and @ search of the island was made, Not all of Hart's Island is city domain. The lower end is still the property of the Hunter éstate and is occupied by fisher- men, who live in shacks along the water's edge. One of the fishermen's rowboats was missing. A man who was out overhauling his tackle at five o'clock this morning said he had seen two young men rowing away from the island aut into the stream at a little after that hour. In mid-stream they had hailed the lighter Sijas, which piles be- tween this city and Northport, and clambered aboard. He thought, but wae Rot sure, Yecause a heavy mist swept down the river jum then, that they had abandoned the rowboat. Police Headquarters wae at once noti- fied and detectives were scattered along both banks of the North River, The police of Northport were asked to meet the Silas and arrest the two, if they Were still aboard.
