The Pacific Mail Steamship Com- pany’s stemaship Peru arrived yester- day from Ancon, via Central America and Mexico. She brought the follow- lnx cabin passengers: Alfred H, Dun- ham, Bertram Coryn, Edward F. Parker Doremus, Gustavo! Joseph, Charles M. Barber and Louis! Leon. The Peru brought an unusual quan- tity of bananas—75,000 bunches all told—one of the largest shipments ever brought here, and these, with 2900 bags of coffee, practically made up the 895 tons of cargo. In her treasure box was §$22,457. She also brought eleven packages of mail. The Peru was twenty-four days, sixteen hours and thirty-seven min- utes from Ancon and five days, nine- teen hours and twenty-nine minutes, from Mazatlan. When the Peru arrived at Panama, on her trip south from here, she heard of the earthquake here, which was magnified into the statement that this city was destroyed and 200,000 persons were killed. This naturally threw all on board the vessel into a tumult of excitement, until later they status of affairs. Starts on Maiden Trip.
