Both Andrew Clunie, manager of the San Francisco team, and Edward Hanlon, head of the Cincinnati layout, want him to twist 'em over this season. There is a difference of $3000 between the magnates | Hanlon was the manager of the Brook- lyn team when Corbett had a contract with the nine of the city of churches. ‘When Joe signed up with St. Louis Han- lon generously loaned him to that club, thinking he was all in. He did the same | thing when Morley wanted Joe, but as the latter pitched many a startling game for each club the Brooklyn magnate figured he might still be some good, and, accord- ing to the national agreement. he retained his claim, which is still good. Clunie now wants Corbett. He had a talk with Joe a few days ago and began to frame up terms. Corbett wired Hanlon to find out about the proposition and dis- covered that the Cincinnati manager de- manded $3000 for his release. This s a big sum to pay for any ball player and consequently when Clunie re- ceived the news he was under the im- pression that Hanlon was trying to “put one over” on him. He is fuming and rag- ing about this at the present time, but cannot see any way out of it right now. Corbett wants to get back into the game | badly, and, as San Francisco is his home, | he naturally figures on coming here. He savs he is in good shape and can pitch as effectively as ever.
