LOUIS, Nov.' 19.—Belated Californians who are see- ing the glories of the Louisiana Pur- ! chase Exposition approach extinction, except as lhe'y may live in the store- : house of memory, are also getting an illustration of what California would ; be like without its wonderful climate. | They are seeing trees and plants from that favored land shuddering and sickening as the season wanes and the | premonitory signs of winter’s grasp of | ice are manifest. The tropical prowths | | of the Golden State can’t do much here | outside of a hothouse. I The summers, hot as they are, will |not even mature the citrus fruits. | | ‘Pomelu. or grape fruit, trees from | ! | Sacramento, which were set out in front of the Palace of Agriculture, con- tain fruit about one inch in diameter, | | which has not increased any in size | ‘tor a month. That seems to be the: highest possible attainment for a grape i fruit here out of doors. Those on the | trees will never show any signs of ripening, but will soon fall off. ' The orange trees planted in front of | the California and San Francisco | buildings did about as well in propor- | tion. Some of the oranges on them grew to the size of a pigeon egg. Well-Known Rancher Cured by the Wonderiul New Electro - Chemic Treatment “I was sick for a long time and I do mot believe that any of my home physiclans un- derstood my condition, at any rate the ordi- nary medical treatment which I used for a long time did me no good and my disesse kept on growing steadily worse until I was unable to attend to my duties on my ranch. I was mighty sick and discouraged when I went to the Electro-Chemic Institute at 118 Grant " avenue, San Francisco, for a thorough Electro- { Chemic examination. This examination was surely a thorough one and the Electro-Chemic specialists had no difficulty In discovering what my real trouble was, and I felt so satis- fled with the examination that 1 decided right then and there to take up the Electro-Chemic treatment. 1 had a good deal of confidence { in the Electro-Chemic treatment before visit- Ing the Institute, because several of my friends in Petaluma had been successtully treated by it. My trouble proved to be a complicajed disorder, which affected my stomach, liver, spleen and bowels. The pain below my liver was most severe at times, and I had been told that L had appendicitis and that I would have to undergo an operation. I thought this was myself, because the paln seemed to be exactly in the spot where the appendicitis pain comes, as explained by my doctor. At first my con- dition was very stubborn, even under the Electro-Chemic ‘treatment, but finally, by close application to the treatment, 1 began to grow steadily better, and to-day I feel that I have § Trains lenve and are du to arriveat z| SAN FRANCIZCO. Vermeil, all of San Fran- cigco, the two last named being well- known hay dealers, were among the few Californians at the fair last week. They did the exposition together and as a consequence the hay wmen learned something they had never known about surgery, and the physician something he had never known ahout hay. When Dr. A. P. O'Brien was here he naturally took great interest in the Board of Health exhibit in the San Francisco building and was amused to find there the ‘“‘roa of Mayor Schmitz delivered by Dr. Williamson as president of the outgoing Health Board. He told of it as a joke to Dr. ‘Williamson when he got back to San Francisco and the latter naturally looked for the document when he visit- ed the San Francisco building to se= how it would look in print.
