The majority of the Madonnas were the dusky-eyed. Spanish “or Italian women, but it is curious to note the distinct Chi- nese type which Hans Memtinc of the \ Dutch gchool gave to his beautiful paint- ing. Goodall in his palm offering is decided- 1y Egyptian, while Urap's. celebrated plc- ture is certainly about as German as it rosgibly-could be. The newly discovered Madonna by Ra- phael represents the dainty .French wo- man, while Pinttrcchio has so faithfully THE SUNDAY CALL, portrayed the Oriental features of the-: Japanese that one wonders where he: se- cured. his model. One of the best Italian portraits, both eof the Madonna and the child, is ;the masterpiete of Courtois. It Is' so ‘gen- uinely Italian, so thoroughly ‘appropriate that It fs a general favorite among ‘art collectors. .
