All of the local Rebekah lodges have signified thieir intention of co-operating with Orien- tal in this matter, and to make it a great #uccess have appointed committees to meet with Oriental to arrange all the nécessary detalls. On the evening of the 24th inst. Oriental Lodge had three can- didates to initiate. The entertainment committee of the lodge is actively at work preparing for a grand entertainment and dance to be given on the night of the 8th of October. An excellent programme will be presented. The San Francisco Rebekah Drill Corps, Captain Allie Parer commanding, gave an exhibition drill on the 20th inst. before the 0dd Fellow lodges in Vallejo. The drill was perfect, and the ladies of the corps were applauded to the echo. A new Rebekah lodge was instituted at Carters during the past week. The contract has been awarded for the new hospital to be connected with the Orphans’ Home at Gilroy. NATIVE DAUGHTERS. Las Torrosas Parlor of the Native Daughters of the Golden West will give an entertainment .and dance in Union- square Hall on the night of the 9th of Oe- tober in aid of its fund for the relief of the members who are sick and drawing from the benefit fund. The feature of the entertainment will be a one-act farce en- titled ‘A Victim of Circumstances,” to be produced under the direction of Henry G. Leffermann of Army and Navy Parlor of the N. 8. G. W. The committee in charge of this function will do all in its power to make this entertainment one that will be enjoyved by all who shall attend. If all the friends of the members are present on the night named, then Union-square Hall will be crowded. Buena Vista Parlor of the Native Daughters of the Golden West had a pri- vate minstrel show and high jinks in the parlor hall after the business meeting, for members only. The ' feature of the evening was a_delightful concert by the Female Hobo Band. There were a num- ber of vaudeville numbers and vocal selec- tions by Mrs. Alice Lignon Walsh, Belle O’Brien \and Miss Alice Ticoulet, and a fancy dance by Mrs, Ella Wehe. One of the duets that “brought down the house” was by Miss O’'Brien and Miss Ticoulet, which was a parody on “Tell Me, Pretty Maiden.” During the business ses. sion the parlor was visited by a large dei- egation from Genevieve Parlor, under the leadership_of its vivacious deputy, Mrs. R. Kemp Van Ee. Calaveras Parlor, the beauty parlor of the order. had an “at home” last week for its members, and it proved to be a very interesting and delightful affair. The grand president, Eliza D. Keith, and the grand secretary, Laura J. Frakes, were guests of honor at the Alameda car- nival of the Native Sons and Daughters of Haywards. Golden West Tent of the Knights of the Maccabees is making good progress and at this time has an activée membership tkat is working hard to advance the tent and bring it to the front. San Francisco Tent has recently organ- ized a division of the uniform rank of the order, which will be known as Divi- sion No. 3, U. R. K. O. T. M. The fol- lowing are the officers of the new or- anization: H. L. Tickner, past captain; arlton W. Seeley, captain; E. Finley, first lleutenant; George V. Lerol, secon leutenant; H. Castle, record-keeper, and Theodore Frolich, finance-keeper. The charter closed with thirty names on the roll. The division expects to be fully uni- formed within a month and to its initial appearance in public soon after the uniforms are accepted. The tent is also organizing a band and a drum corps. Sir Knight Lerof, who has been working hard to get the knights interested In this mat- ter, will devote considerable attention to organizing other divisions in this jurisdic- tion, particularly the northern part there- of, and he expects to be able to report several of these auxiliaries to the Knights in a short time. The “hard times” party that was giv by San Francisco Hive of the Ladlfi o-t the Maccabees in the Occldental Hall of the Supreme Court building last Thursday night was well attended and was a suce gess as to the many who demonstrated how well they could play the poverty part. There was a great deal of hilarity &nd all had a good time. The affair was successfully managed by .Ladles 8. M. Schlink, Lilllan H. Archibaid, accompanied by Grand Reporter Johnstone, Supreme Representa- tive Crowe, Grand Vice Dictator Holcomb and Thomas Learned, president of the large class initiation committee, visited Carquinez Lodge at Crockett and Initiated five candidates. After the work the visi- tors were the guests of honor at a ban- quet. This lodge has three more applica- tious to act upon, Yerba Buena Lodge at its meeting on the 15tn instant received four applications that were referred to the appropriate com- mittee. Liberty Lodge on the 15th nstant initiat- ed ome stranger into the mysteries of the order. Grand Dictator Archibald initiated two strangers for Saxon Lodge on the night of the 15th instant. On the 20th instant the committee on large class initiation received a report from the executive committee in the mat- ter of arranging for a mass meeting and jolly good time night for the 2d of Oc- tober in the Alcazar building. There is to be a good programme of entertainment and a good time generally. ANCIENT ORDER WORKMEN. Golden West Lodge at its last held meecting Initiated three strangers. Valley Lodge had sixteen strangers to Initiate on the 2ith inst Prosperyty Lodge has issued a strong circular to all its members in connectivn with the large class initiation and it has also taken steps to reorganize its drili team. Saints Johns Lodge, of which R. F. MacKenzie is the master workman, at its last held meeting ccnferred the de- gree on candidates and the membersh.p is active in the matter of the large ciass Initiation. The picnic committee has divided pro rata the funds received from the picnie given some time since. A number of the lodzes gave the amount received to the local lodges of the aegree of honer. Crocker Lodge cf the A. O. U. W. and Silver Spray Lodge of the D. of H., gave a joint entertainment and party, in the main hall of Excelsior ' buildiug last Wednesday night. It was well attended and proved to be a very pleasant @ffair. The general committee having charge of the arrangements for the celebration of the anniversiry of the order and the large class initiation, received reports from the several sub-committees on the 25th, and from these it appearcd that ai} is_pro esaing well. Mayfield Lodge .initiated a class of six last Wednesday, the work being exem- plified by Grand Recoruer Speneer. A Jarge number of strangers were in- itiated in San Jose last Wednesday night. SEVEN PINES CIRCLE. Seven Pines Circle of the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic was visited on the 1ith inst. by the membership of John B. Wyman Circle of Oakland and a very pleasant evening was spent. Af- ter the close of business the ladies of Seven Pines entertained the visitors and served refreshments. This circle gave a pleasant flag party in the A. O. F. bufld- ing last week. There was a large attend- ance and the programme was very enter- taining.
