HA SUND. |1 il I - ""\”i'llll Y i I o o Gossip Along the Automobile Row = L. ireland big prediction for a good 1918 season en- of Ireland Bros, bases tirely u the crop conditions which he had occasion to observe last week. The contractor is now busy with the interior woodwork. at the new Firestohe bullding, which Manager ¥. C. Rudjsell expects to occupy within the next few weeks, . H. MacAlman, the Boston Stearns- Knight dealer, has set a record among castern dealers by selling & half-milllen dollars’ worth of Stearns-Knight cars e January 1. i Botterill of Denver and Ed Bote tarid of Salt Lake City, en route to Buf« talo, N. ¥, in a Ple Arrow, stopped ere with the Stewart- or company last Thursday and Friday Manager O, A. Olgon of the Pennsyl- vania Rubber company's local branch anndunced last ‘week .that, berinning June 1, ids gompany would extend the guarantes on the Vacuum Cup type ef tire from 4,500 miles to 6,000 miles. This is welcome ws to motorists, E. L. Doty, the Reo and Chevrolet ais- tributér for this territory, hal just re- turned from a.week's visit to his fac- torles and he is able to verify the report that both factories are working to their utmost capacity and are still unable to meet the demands of the dealers. A recent letter from the Federal Motor Truck company to E. B, Moser & Co, of this.city states that the result of an in- vestiation of the type of delivery trucks used by furniture dealers shows that there are almost ‘twice the number of Federal trucks used for this purpose than any other truck of similar capacity. Lee Huff of the Nebraska-Buick com- pany hasx been spending the last week at the Buick factory at Flint, Mich., at- tending a convention of Buick distribu- ters. Coincident with this meeting the By Motor company announced its in- tention to build nothing but six-cylinder cars for the 1916 season. There will be two models, one a light six and the other e L S a larger oar. No announcement of price has been made as yet The best cvidence that Tom O'Brien and | ¢ Bert Murphy have returned from the Dodge and Paige factorfes is the pres- ence of some cars on their salesroom floor which has been unoccupled for the last few weeks. The shortage of cars | has been so great that as soon as some were unjoaded they were quickly driven away by dealers and owners, C. W. Bruce, the local Lexington dis- tributer, was badly bruised last Satur- day near Connersville, Ind., when one of the factory test cars in which he was riding with a tester struck a bhad hole in the road while traveling at a high rate of speed.- He was thrown from his seat and alighted at the side of the road, but nefther the driver nor the car were in- Jured. This year it mpems that the manufac turers have tried to exceed the deal fondeat expectations not only in the con- struction of cars, but in the price as well. Many can easily recall the day when it was Impossible to get a second- hang car for much less than 1,000, This, compared With, the present prices on some of the popular cars, which are $750 or very close thereto, should convince the new buyers that they are getting more for their money than ever before. Joe Dine, Goodyear branch manager, I8 just back from a trip out through the state ang brings with him the pleasant recollection of spendfhg thirty minutes driving one mile In his car. Joe says‘it certainly rained outside of Omaha during the last ten days, but that the farmers were glad to get It. “We don't doubj it a bit, for the more it rains the better the crops. The better the crops the bet- ter the automobile business and inci- dentally they both make good Goodyear businese,” Henry Nygaard of the Omaha Tire Re- pair company is justiy enthusiastic over the showing made by the Goodrich Bil- vertown tires used on the racing cars during the Indlanapolls race last Mon- day. The first ten cars to finlsh were 50 cquipped, It Is expected that this fact will stimulate the demand for Silyertown Cord tires throughout the country as it has in Omaha. Mr. Nygaard is also for- tunate in handling the new Goodyear Cord tire and It was interesting to note that the Twin-Six Packard which was driven through Omaha last week by the president of the Packard Motor Car com pany was equipped with Goodyear' Cord r Detroit alr. An exami- wed practically no t that the entire aha was in and thr nation of the t wear in spite o trip from Detroit to O steady downpour of ra®™ roads that would have scemed impassa ble to the average car. CGeorge . McVicker, manager of the Jeffery-Omaha company, made an envia ble record last by delivering thir- teen of the 106 ¥ pire cars, five six. cylinder and thr four-cylinder models of the Jeffery car. Most of these deliv- erles have been made In the central part ads of that vicinity sre of & sanly nat 1 b n affected by the rain aa they have adja- cent to Omaha iIn both lowa and Ne- braska. This is an enviable record in view of the fact that the 1916 Empire was nly announced two weeks ago Auto Club to Have New Tourists' Map At the Club Rooms The Thomas Cusack company is now working on one of the complete combination highway-weather maps for -’uf Nebraska, as th most club, This map will cover the entire wall and show the club member and tourist at a glance the principal highways be- tween Omahm and Davenport and Des Moines on the east, Kansas City on the south, Denver on the west and Minno- apolis and St. Paul on the notth, and also condition of roads, which will be indi cated by colored flags, Tour slips to all points out of Omaha are now ready An exceptionally fine automobile high- way map is now being designed, which will cover most of Nebraska and as far east In Jowa as Des Molnes, showing the roads and the citles in red outline Clarke G.
