Tflednein;‘h;y !forning, May 28, atarted for the park with it, and met one of the sellers coming after the bag in hot haste. There are plenty of crooks lying about town, anyone of whom would have gladly availed himself of this opportunity of getting away with the pool box if they had only known it. The concert given in Bayliss park last evening drew a big crowd. The Bavarian band gave its best music, which is saying much. Mr. Mueller, who paid all the exponses, of courno used the concert to draw attention to the Hardman piano, but the people had just as much enjoy- ment out of the music as though it did not have this advertising feature, Tho park was beautifully decorated with flags, etc., and & largo picture of the cole- brated piano was put in a prominent place. Tue B a8 the first to give the public an open-air concert, and now that Mr. Mueller has given one, lat some other cnterprising business house come to the front, and let the people have the banefit of the free entertainmenta. — SONA L. The Races Open Very Favorably Yes- terday. A Fine Field of Horses and Some Excellent Tlime, Still Better Sport Offered To-day. The spring running meeting of the Council Bluffs Driving Park association opened yesterday under fair auspices as the most sanguine could have hoped for. The day wos perfect, warm but not too warm, cool but not too cool, sunshiny pleasant everyway. The attendance was not #o large as it should have been, but this is as usual on npening days. No matter how great the attractions offered, the public hasan idea that the opening day of any races or fair cannot amount to much, and this idea is hard to dispel. The Bavarian band furnished the music, all excellent music it was too, the only trouble being that there was not enough of it. The omnipresent wheel of fortune was of course, on hand, with its everlast- ing yell of *‘let 'er roll.” “Old Butch” as ho is familiarly known was selling pools in his usual happy way.
