LOOAL BRUVITIHES, —About ten o'closk last night a police whistle was blown in the vicinity of Farn. ham and Twelfth street and on investiga- tion the caute of the alarm was found to be sn attempted burglary of Solomon’s store, where an auction was in progrees during the evening. It is believed that some one present at the auction secreted himself in the building and after the crowd had dispersed opened the back door and prepared to get in his work. No par- tioular loss is reported. —FEarly last eveving the portion of Douglas strest which had just been com- pleted by the pavement contractors was thrown open to the public and was taken poscession of by the bicyclers, and subse- quertly by a quartette of roller skaters. The smooth surface sfforded a splendi} skating rink, and some of the experts at that sport were on hand to enjoy it. Pathetic Bcene at His Death Bed.—The Funeral on Thureday. The remains of the late Frank W, Bsldwin, whose death was announced fo Monday's Bex,reached this city yes- terday on the Danver traln, being acsompanled by Hon, O, A. Baldwin and wife, the parents of the deceased, and a namber of frlends and rela- tiver. The body was met at the depot by a deputation of Unlon Paclfic clerks, who acted as an escort, and by a num- ber of friends who reside in this city. The casket was removed from the case and placed In the hearse, whish, followed by soveral carriager, proceed od to the residence of W, H. Kent, No. 314 South Ninth straet, where Judge Baldwin aud his wifs reside. There the casket was deposited untii the time should arrive for the final ritos and it was at onca falrly covered with the most beautifal flral offer- ings imaginable. A MIDNIGHT BLAZE. Narrow Hscape Fiom a Disastrous Fire. At 11:50 o’clock last night an alarm of fire was sounded from box 12, cor- ner Douglas and Thirteenth streets, which was promptly responded to by Nos! 2 and 3 and the Hooks. No. 2 hose cart came down Douglas street like a stresk of lightning, and the horses knocked the barricades down In every dlvection until it scomed as if a oyclone was traveling down the street.
