The heaviest raln storm, accompa- nled by thunder and lightning, that has visited this locality for a long tlme, occurred last Friday night, Mr. Oscar Goodrich, who resides in Goodrlch townshlp, lost his barn and all its contenis by belng struck by lightning, It contained four head of horses, one calt, one wagon, two sets of haruess, about flve tons of hay, and such farming tools as sre usually kept in a barn. Wo learn that there was £100 Ineurance on the barn, $300 on the horses, and $75 on the wagon and harness. Mr. Goodrich was away from home at the time, and the fire was not seen by his fam! ly until the was nearly consumed. They Are Interrupted in Huainess By & Woman Who ‘threatens wo Kill Herself. Yestorday the board of mupervisors rere In sesslon agaln, golng along with the hamdrum work before them, when a woman, poorly clad, appeared before them and demanded rellef, She sald she was the divorced wife of Paddy White and was 8o destitate that she must have help. It seems that she had been at the poor hcuse until in April lnet, when ehe left. She com- plained bltterly of the way she wae treated there, clalmed that she had to work harder than she was able to stand; that she had no bed fit to sleep on; \km sho was mubjected to abusive language by the son of the over- soer, and in fact there wus nnlhlng about the poor house that was right. The enporvisors urged her to retara to the poor honoe, assuring her that it would be all n;,h? and she would be used well there, but she re- fased to go, and declared with tears in her eyes that if the county board would not help her she would kill her- solf. She sald she had had enouvgh of trouble, and proferred to end it by terminating her lifo, Sho was talked to until she calmed down some, and was sent over o Mr, Bryant, as the authorfz:d official to decide what could be done with her. Mrs, White, that was, 1s said to be given too freely to the flowing bowl, and most of her troubles have arisen from thatsource, and her condition yesterday was such a8 to account in part for the threats she made of rufolde. The rest of tho day's sceslon wont along quietly. The road petitioned for by L. Jen- son and others was establlshed and the old road vacated, Thomas Triplett be- ing awarded $200 and Mr, Nixon's claim belng disailowed, all this being on condition of the petitloners pay- ing all coats and damages. The supervisors looked over and talked over the asessments returned, One thing was noticeable, that in eev- eral towna where the assessor returned numbers of horses, there was little or nothing returned on vehicles. The board could hardly belisve that every- body In those towns rode on horseback, and the query as to what rhall be dooe to make up for the omlssion of vehlcles, was dis- oussed Informally, but no declsion reached. The table !s not completo, all the assesaments not being retarned. The total, however, will probably show a ralse in the county of about one and a half mililon dollsra over last year's assesoment, The rallway property In the connty foots np $980 924 _——————— Dr. West, Dentist, 14 Pearl stroet, —_——— Commorolal job printing, finest stylea and reasonahle rates, at Pryor's Bee .luh (!fl e, 7 Pearl street. T A NOISY GANG. A Cbarivari Party at which Shots were Fired, Clubs Throwr, and Blows Suuck There was & disgracaful dlscurbance on Graham avenune Tuesday night, in the nature of & charivarl party, who sought thus to annny & worthy couple who had just got married. The first gang was made up of boys with oyster caus and other diabollcal means of making music. They lowled and surged about the hounse until finally some one of the fam!ly vrged them to Ro away in peace. This was met by a howl on the part of the boye, wko promised to depart if they were glven a dollar to got & treat with, This was refused and the howls went up again, Finally some one came oat of the honse and rapped one or two of the boys over the head. They thought this was the preacher, aud they shouted all kinds of things wbout him, and soon a crowd of older boys, young wmen, in fact, came up, and learning the situstion gsve three cheers for the preacher, and crowded close up about the house, Some one came oat of the houee and threw cev- eral blllets of stove wood at the crowd, but thls only seem:d to infurlate them more. Finally some one in the house fired five shots from a revolver, the balls passing over the heads of the gang, they probably being Intended to do no harm. The newly marrled couple In the meantime had driven off in a carriage, aud it was not until the lights were turued down in the house, that the disorderly crowd went off, sfuging “Pat me in my little bed.” The great mistake seoms to have been made {a the family and guests trying to handle the disturbers themselves, instead of ealling on the police to run the youthful howlers into the cala- boose.
