2 THE DAILY BEE---OMAHA FRIDAY, SEI’TEMBER 29 THE APOSTLES' CREED, That Which Govern the Saintly Sinners of Mormondons, The Ins Hold the Fort While the Gentiles Froth and Fume the Threskhold. oa The Right of the Women to Vote Afirmed by the United States Court. Sights and Sensations on Both Sides of the Jordan. Coerespondence of Omahs Bes. Saur Lage Crry, September 23,— The few daya just past have been full of small excitements. First came the decisions of all three of the United States judges, in their respective dis- tricts upholding the territorial woman suffrage law. It was widely expected that the law would be set aside, and if #o the ‘‘Mormons” would have been bereft of probably, forty-five per cent of their votes, Bat though itis un- dorstood that some of the judges do not favor woman suffeage as a princi- ple, yot they all decided there was nothing unconstitutional in the act itself or contrary to the organic act wherein the powers of the local legis- lative assembly are defined. Then came the appointments by the governor to fill the offices which he oconsiders are rendered vacant by the tailure to elec: last August. From this opinion many non-Mormons, and I suppose, all the Mormons differ. A Aney rate the ‘‘ins” hold the fort, and refuse to surrender. The gubernato- rial appointments will consequently have to appeal to the courts to help them get in; but the difficnlty ia that the game, as & general thing, is not worth the powder. Lawyers fees and oourt expenses will amount to far more than the emoluments of the coveted offices. On the other side no expense will be spared, it is not with them an individual matter. It resolves itself into the question of the right of the majority to rule, and the majority here like majorities elsewhere will not give up the reins of power without a struggle. The immediate queation, however, is not on the constitutional- ity of the law under which the gover- nor acts, but the constitution of the law; the governor holding one view and ninety-nine hundredths of the people the other. Even somo of the attorneya engaged to represent the caso of the sppointees, before thoy were retained, expressed strong opin- ions adversely to the position of those who are now their clients, No trouble is anticipated from these complications, only & long and severe stroggle in the courts, which will eventually be carried, where possible, to the Supreme Court at Washington. A sensational dispatch has been wired over the country that the send- ing of two more companies of troops to Fort Douglas was in cousequence of expected troublo at the polls next November at the election for Terri- torial Delegate. Of course this was nothing but a fitign. The Mormons have o need to ke trouble, for not. withstanding the disfranchisement of Stoart, Troop b, Fifth cavalry, and such other prisoners as may be brought before it. Detail for the Court—Captains Al- bert E. Woodson, Fifth cavalry; John W. Bubb, Fourth infantry; Jacob A. Augur, Fifth oavalry, and Holmes O. Paulding, sssistant surgeon; First Lieutenant Robert London, Fifth cav- alry. Second Lientenant Lorenzs L. Brooks, Fifth cavalry, judge advocate. A general court martial is appointed to meet at Fort McKinney, Wyoming, on the 9th day of October, 1882, or as soon thereafter as practicable, for the trial of Private Emil Spinony, Troop I, Fifth calvary, and such other prisoners as may be brought be- fore it. Deatail for the court: Captains Hen- ry M. Cronkhite, assistant surgeon, Sanford C. Kellogg, Fifth cavalry and Alpheue H. Bowman, Ninth infantry, First Licutenant Charles D. Park- hurst, Fifth cavalry, Second Lieuten- ant Thomas 8, McCaleb, Ninth in- fantry, Second Lieutenant John Bax- ter, Jr., Ninth infantry, Judge Ad- vocate, Resrait Oscar Hammelton, enlisted at Fort Omaha, Neb,, is assigned to company B, Fourth infantry. “Copy of endorsement on communi- cation of September 2, 1882, in cace of private J. The Utes are not the moat kindly disposed d the present commission because the government has nover as yet car. ried ont its agrecment with them, but the commission hope within the re- quired time to do that which the law and instructions of the secretary of the intorior demands of 1t.
