There are so many loop-holes in the law, or at least so many chances for litigation, that if the company desires to fight it, there will probably be much vexation of soul. The inspector gets no reward for prosecuting cases, and at five cents a package, when the package consists of such a big tank as the company has, there will be little profit. It is to be hoped that some means can be taken to protect the public effectually againat dangerous oils sold for illuminating purposes, but the outlook is not very favorable. LitTLEIOHN, COMMENCING COURT. The Term Opens With a Smaller Num- ber of Cases Than Usual. . The August term of the circuit court for this county opened yesterday, a week later than the time fixed upon, Jndge Loofbourow being absent in the west. The docket shows 225 cases, a smaller number than usual, there promises to be less of interest and importance than usual. Most of yesterday was taken up in making as- signments. The cases from the east end of the county were oclubbed together as nearly as possible in mak- ing the assignments 80 a8 to conven- ience attorneys and witnesses from that vicinity. A few wills were probated yesterday. Among those of the bar in attend- ance from the county are: E. A, Babcock, Avoca; H. J. Chambers, Avoca; E. M, Love, Carson; H. L McWilliame, Avoca; F. A convention of grain buyers, rep- resenting all the territory lying west of Creston, Iowa, extending to Coun- cil Bluffs, and south of Creston and west of Mayaville, Mo. ; to the river— in all over seventy firms—was held at Shenandoah, Towa, on August 1. One object of the meeting was to express their indignation at the treatment shippers received at the hauds of un- scrupulous parties in St. Louis, The shortage in weights and classification of grade by tho inspectors has been equal to daylight robbery. 1t was Resolved, That it is thesense of this meeting that we no longer submit to the indidnities heaped upon us by vhe sharks in St, Louis, and from this day henceforth we ignore the St. Louis market and ship all our grain to Chi- cago, where we are sure of proper weight and grade. TtE BAD AND WuRTHLESS Are never i ted or counterfeled. This 1s especially true of a family medicine, and it is positive proof that the remedy imitated is of the highest value. As soon as it had been tested and proved by the whole world that Hop Bitters was the purest, best and most valusble family medicine on earth, many imitations sprung up and began to steal the notices in which the press and people of the country had expressed the merits of H. B., and in every way trying to induce suf- fering invalids ;0 use their stuff in stead, expecting to make money on the credit and good name of H B. Many others started nostrums put up in similar style to H. B, with vari- ously devised names in which the word ‘“Hop” or ““Hops” were used in a way to induce peoplo to believe they were the same as Hop Bitters, All such pretended remedies or cures, no matter what their style or name is, and espicially those with the word “‘Hop" or *“Hops” in their name or in any way connected with them or their name, are imitations or counterfeits Beware of them.
