The good citizens of Omaha have Dean apprised at different and numer- of late through the columns Bre of the many different raids made by the krights of the jim- mie upon the safes, tills and other comatables of our people. So often have these faids been made that it bas becoms necessary in certain pars of our city to organizea night patrol of citizeis, the police force being inade- quate to properly protect all parts of the city at night. These inroads upon the wealth of our citizens have become so numercus and 8o startling in their boldness of desigh and execntion that the city marshal deputed one of his police- men to work up and ferret out the orgaviz:d gang of thieves who are known to iufest the town. The said policeman, whose other mame is Pat Ford, commenced operations by iu- gratiating hiwsalf fito the good graces of & noved erook and péniteti- tiary bird, who imparted to him the startling information that a well &nown locksmith of this city did a thriving business In manu‘acturing burglars’ tools ta order for the gang, and charging them from thirty eight to fifty doliars per set for the same. To substsntiate what he said he volunteered to go and order a set, which he acerrdingly did A bargain was huade, snd the locksmith agreed to furnish the tools required for the sum of $38, In due time the teols weze called for, tie officer accompa yirg the pur- cha-et, and remsining on the sutside untii the transaction was closed, when he intended toslip inanl srrest the manufecturer. Bat somehow or cth- ec be had got wind of the whole thivg wnd refused to deliver the tools, mak- iilz as an excnse that he had not made them yet nof was't oifts to, as He didn't do 1h.t kind ot business. OF course, the arrcst was not made under , but there exists ifi ihe mind of the oficer that the locksmith had dono plenty cf that kind of business, and were it not that he rmelled a very lurge sized ro- dent, there is uo doulst that his last “kit” of tools would have cost him 4 “stretch or two in the pen.” the circamatane, > doabt POLITICAL POINTS.
