Because of the entrance of the Unit- ed States into the World War, Cham- Ibers of Commerce as never before are tent of the inyestors, namely that of bringing indusies to Norwich, in a majority of instances 1 believe the stockholders would countenance such a proposition and vote their interests in the dividend to this purpose. Ac- noweledging this letter President Case, for the Norwich Industrial Improve ment Corporation , stated that the di- rectors felt that this is a matter over which they have no jurisdiction but suggested that the same be presented at the stockholders’ meeting which is to be held on October 6th. The direct- ors feel that this is a matter for each stockholder to determine, as they as officers, have no power to act in_ the matter. 1 feel that should this divi- dend of some five to seven thousand dollars be left as a fund available for the purposes hereinbefore stated {subject to the voting pawer and dis- cretion of the dirvectors of the Cham- organizaion that ts being recognized by congress and by our national leaders as one of the most efficient orgnaizations ever built up of mon-po- litical order. With this thought up- rmost, with the thought of having Norwich render the greatest possible service, would it not be proper at this time to take some action in regard to a membership campaign during the last quarter of 1917. As you are well aware, the by-laws have been amended and broadened to allow associate members becoming affiliated with this organization, thus permitting indus. tries and large business houses to register their names as such with dues in keeping with the dignity of the service rendered said organization: War Convention, Atlantic City, At the August tneeting of the Board President James was authorized 15 Maip Street FUNERAL DIRECTORS EMBALMERS Lody Assistant Telephor.e 223-3 HENRY E.
