FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL A Dull Market in Stocks and Prices Barely Steady. MONEY MORE ACTIVE. Cold Firm at Ill 5-8-—Large Exports. THE BANK STATEMENT. Watt Srruer, Sarurpay, Dec, 12-6 P, M. ‘The chief interest o1 the market to-day was felt in connection with the bank statement, This did not, however, show such influential changes as ‘were expected, and the stock market did not ex- hibit B corresponding response, A report came over the wires that a Caitfornia banking house had withdrawn $1,000,000 of gold from New York, but the utmost inquiry failed to elicit proof of the fact, Stocks were generally without feature. There was some disposition to-day to press them dower, but they showed the effect of good backing and the decline was tnconsiderable, The Bales were not large and the variations unsugges- tive. It was perbaps for this reason that a good many operaiors look upon this situation as en- eouraging and are inclined to buy stocks, We ‘note this disposition. Tne stocks sold amount to only 112,000 shares, the smallest record of the Week, and are divided as {ollows:—New York Cen- traland Hudson, 750; Erle, 21,900; Lake Shore, 12,600; Northwestern, 12,100; Northwestern pre- ferred, 300; Rock Island, 2,000; Pacific Mall, 10,500; Bt.
