There ia no doubt but that Lahr was in- sane at the ines of the tragedy, Coroner Herrman rst if the investigation ill eleven o'clock on ‘Phursda: THE MONDAY NIGHT } MURDER. Post-Mortem Yesterday by Drs. Marsh and C tifea To—T and “Jerry” Participants. ‘The Coroner has not yet set a day for the inquest in the case of the unknowp man who was murdered between ten and eleven o'clock on Monday night in front of Schwartz's grocery store, corner of Greene and Spring streets, yet yesterday some few additional facts were developed. Drs, Marsh and Cushman made an autopsy at the Eighth ward station house, and found that death resulted trom congestion of the brain, caused by a blow of some kind inflicted upon the back of the head. Captain Wiliams and his officers were very active yesterday working up the case, as it is believed that there are other parties than Meyers, the bar- keeper for Schwartz, implicated, The witnesses State that after he was beaten by Moyers, who is in custody, two men, who were accompanied by a woman, attacked him, knocked him down and kicked him until he died. These men are believed to be Victor Post ana Jerry Fuller, two deck hands who hover about the pier of the Long Branch boats. Charles Kahn, of 11 Lispenard street, who was passing, states that he saw deceased and Meyers come out of Schwartz's place clinched, bat he did not see the club used; Meyers pushed deceased down, and us he teil he caught Meyers’ legs, and he, too, fell; Meyérs got of him, when the deceased arose and went up to Prince street, Moyers remaining on the street to watch him; just then Post and Fuller passed with a girl; some words took place, when the smaller of the men, Post, struck deceased, and, knocking lim down, kicked hint severely about the body; de- ceased got upon his feet again, when Fuller dealt him a severe blow; the man fell forward on his face and immediately expired, Anna McClure, of 82 Spring strect, who claims to be married toa nephew of Mayor fHlavemeyer, stated to the HERALD reporter that she saw two un- known men, who were with a girl, strike the man and knock him down upon the sidewalk, from which be never arose. Her testimony coutirms that of Kohn in nearly every particular, Other wit- nesses to the affray, it is reported, will be obtained by Captain Williams and his oillcers, - From what is already known, it seems quite evident that the deceased was badly beaten after he had escaped from Meyers’ hands, by the above named parties,, who, tt seems, were not in collusion with Meyers, and it will be very dificult to decide as to waich of the attacks causéd death, Up to the present writing the body has not been identified, but perecne state that they have tre- spenay seen him about the North Kiver piers, in ¢ Filth ward, where it is believed he was em- ployed as an engineer or fireman, In personal Appearance he was about five leet six or seven inches, with brown hair, heavy mustache and goatee and gray eyes, and was dressed in gray undershirt, white overshirt, blue flannel panta- loons, the legs of which were inside ligh boots, and had on a coat, The only articles found upon his person were @ roan colored morocco pocketbook, in which were two gold shirt studs, on which was engraved @ master mason’s emblem. Meyers was committed to the Tombs hy order of Coroner’Young, and the witnesses were sent to the House of Detention. The opinion of Captain Wil- ams still is that the woman, Ann McClure, knows more about the murder than she has yet divulged. ‘The inquest will be held in a day or two, the Coroner desiring to give Captain Williams time to work up the case. rd MARRIAGES AND DEATHS. The testimony of Mr. Jacob Witzig, of 33 ayenuc A, who rented @ room to deceased and Schneider, showed that Latr, being out of em- loyment, was very intemperate in his abita, and quite unsocial.
