The matter was pretty well discussed through- ‘out the day, and the conclusion arrived at was that at would be to the interest of all concerned to make good the capital of tye company and proceed at once with the business. The stockholders assembled in answer to the ‘wall about cight o'clock, | Mr. 8. B. CuITTENDEN valled the meeting to order, ‘and moved that Mr. Seymour L., Husted preside sover its deliberations, Mr. HusreD declined on the ground that he was a jtrustee, and, therefore, it would not look well Yor him to act as chairman, The call ior him to preside being unanimous, he ‘took ,the = chair, saying that he = did mot think it would be necessary for him to make sany detailed statement of tne atiairs of the com- jpavy. He believed every trustee faced this thing ‘with one feeling. Some of the stockholders might fr disposed to criticise the trustees of the bank. they were so disposed he could not whelp it. They were determined, however, lso stand by one another in this matter, \and in that way promote the harmony and interest ‘in the institution. It was the determination of the ‘trustees from the first to save every depositor. For the first three days they hardly knew where they stood. By the end of that time: they found they had some doubtful loans in the- insti- tution, and two or three of the parties to whom money had been loaned they were in doubt about. They met on Friday, the day vefore the suspension, and on examining into the affairs found, that they would not have money enough to carry them through the following day, and therefore they concluded to suspend, and he thought they took the wise course. They had met early this mornmg and until they came to the Senne, they had scarcely left their seats at the A stockholder thought it would be better for them ‘to hoid a private meeting. He noticed a number of the members of the press present and he was of the opinion that while these gentlemen. were in the room many of the stockholders would not feel dike expressing their views as freely as they would were they coniident their remarks would not be spread before the public, Mr. Bustep said that he thought the members of ‘the press should be allowed to remain. There was nothing now that shouid be private. Ex-Alderman BERGEN was of the same opinion. He said it would be better to have a public meet- ing. General CROOKE said by all means let the mem- bers ol the press remain, If not these gentlemen would rely upon thetr in inationstfor their re- Port and the mattcr might be misrepresented. ‘The objection to the reporters remaming was Judge McCue, one of the trustecs, read a state- ment, which was the same as that o1 the receiver's NEW YORK HERALD, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6, 1873—TRIPLE SHEET, Shamrock weastir, NB, July 23—Arrived, ‘tracy Jane, | VINEYARD HAVEN, ns 4Arrived. brigs Clara THE EIGHTH WARD MURDER. a 2 msex in 6 1 W, spoke bark Sham! Not one was in debt to the bank either directly or indirectly, Upon @ careful examination they found that the capital stock twas not impaired over fifty per cent, ‘He then referred to the Georgia State bonds, on which they had loaned $150,000 upon $200,000 and Bome Other securities which they could not realize ‘on, and on which they would suifer a loss, It was for the stockholders to say whether in their igment they would go on. The affairs the institution were in a much better condition than they supposed. Mr. Rodman’s eoverdrait of $34,000 was secured by orders for bonds to the amount of $39,000 on the Willlumantic Railroad. If the in- | suututionjwas in a position to proceed with the Dusiness it should be done promptly, for some of the smail depositors in the bank had suffered a great inconventence. Mr. J. B.
