The Freoch, therefore, after their military success would not accept any apology from the Dey, but dethroned him, and made a new France of his country—end all this, it appears, for the sake of Chria- tianity. FILLMors ON Tam Stumr.—Ex-President Fillmore is to Speak at Memphis, Tean., this month, A Carustian View or Anouimosism.—The New Orleans Christian Advocate, in commenting on the ‘‘conspiracy in Texas,” uses the following appropriate language, to which we wish to draw the attention of many people within reach of our publication:— Southern slavery, as a rule, is the mildest and mest be- nevolent system of labor in’ the worid, and the slaves, without gation temptation, are the most happy and contented laborers. But, granting it the character attri- buted to it by the abolitfonists, it is even then, in com- parizon with abolitiouism, most saintly and holy. 1s not an evil to character and bome, to society or country. attributed to slavery, by an ignorant or lying abolitionism does not produce a hundredfold. It is the lite of modern politics, the falsehood of modern philoso- phy, the apostacy of modern civilizatien. If ever men deserved the doom which Benedict Arnold escaped, W. H. Seward, Horace Greeley, Charles Sumner, Wendell Phillips, and their abettors, political and clerical, are the Southern men, and patriotic Northern determined to resist the demon of abo- every form, and to make no compro- mise with the insidious moveter, and who simply contend for the constitution of their country, and the Union based upon it, are denounced sometimes by Southern men as fire caters, extremists, ultras and dis- unionists! Shame on the ignoble soula who thus attempt to weaken the public coniidence ip reference to the mon- Strous iniquity of abolitionism. This indirect support of the abolitiouiets bas done more to embviden them in their aggressious than any thing cise. Even now, Liacoln’s or: gan at Chicago, Joba Wentwortn’s r, boldy advo- cates the overthrow of elavery iu the as the doo- trine of the republican party, and shames the republican leaders who are too timid to avow it It quotes Lincoin’s lavguage, embodying the same sentiment. But so far as we cau see, nothing but defeat, and the election of an abolitionist, teach Southern men, and constitu. tiona! men generally, the lessons of patriotism and politi- cal wisdom. United, bisck republicanism could be easily defeated. The people are willing to uaite, but the dema- gogves and office seekers, who curse the country, will not let them. And thos we ‘are divided im part when we ought to be ove, just as the Jews were divi into irreconcileable factions when Jerusalem and the tem ple were tottering to their fall. Our country has falleo snpon evil times, and nothing b wt the providence of God can save us, for vain is the help of man. While Christian men ebould'use all the political means in their power, the presont should be @ time of general humiliation aa prayer. Military Intelligence. INSPECTION.
