Disturbance at a Picnic near Philadelphia PaLapsrrma, Avgust 23, 1859, A riot occurred yesterday at Tacony during an excur- lon of the St. Vincent Sunday schools with the Franklin Rifle Company. A party of rowdies attacked the soldiors during tho target fring. fhe coidiers in defence used the ‘butt ends of their rifies, and 2ome loaded theirs with peb- ‘les and fired upon the rowdies. About twenty persons ‘were stabbed and otherwise wounded. Tho riot was re- fumed on the arrival of the soldiers in the city, but the prompt interference of the police prevented scrious results. Assassination in Bultimore. Barmimone, August 23, 1850. Aman named Augh Sullivaa was shot in the head last ‘might and instantly killed, on the corner of Holliday and Pieasant streets, while on his way home. Several arrests dave been made. : The Coroner’s jury have returned’a verdict that Hugh ‘Sallivan came to bis death by the bands of Thomas Hoff- man, and Robert Miller was an acceasary. Both have deon arrested aud committed. Destiuctive Firs at Syracuse. Syracoss, August 23, 1859. The old yellow building in this city, which was the paleratus factory of D. Kellogg and Co., J. F. Wyman’s twarbie shop, besides several small groceries, &o., was destroyed by fire this morning about three o'clock. The ‘wind was blowing quite hard from the south at the time ond carried burning embers into the steeple of the First ‘Baptist church, covsuming that fine edifice and also the deelling of W. L, Palmer and a house belonging to John Ritchie, Loss op the church $20,000—ingared for only 3,000; loss on otber property not ascertained.
