The Philadelphia Post Office—Admismon of Kan- sas as a Free State—Nomination of State Treasu- rer—Board of Revenue—Occupation of the Members of the Legislature. A bill passed the Honse, yesterday, giving the consent of the Commonwealth of Peonsylvania to the purchase by the United States government of the Pennsylvania Bank property, in Philadelphia, for the location of a Post office. As this is a season of high prices for Post office sites, the Philadelphians, who have an eye to the spoils, are determined not to be bebind the New York speculators; no action bas been taken upon it in the Senate, but there is no doubt of ite passage in that body. The property is valued at $250,000, and you may expect to hear that the government, through the liberality of the present incumbent at the White House, has paid the round sum of $300,000. Resolutions were introduced in the House, yester- day, instructing our Senators aud requesting our Congressmen to vote for the admission of Kansas as a free State; a motion to refer it to the judiciary committee was lost by a vote of 50 to 42, there not being a full House. The further consideration was indefinitely postponed; they will be bronght up again at some future day, when I prediet that they will pass both branches of the Legislature; a portion of tne de- mocrats will be compelled to vote for them or violate the pledges that they have made to their constitu- nents during the campaign. Under the present ex- isting cireumstance the democratic members from the interior part of the State are ina dilemma, being elected under « pledge tor free Kansas, and the leaders of their party demanding that they snowd repudiate that idea.
